Position Details: The Director is responsible for all aspects of wellness and health promotion on the UND campus. The Director oversees the management and operations of wellness and health promotion buildings and spaces, supervises staff, and formulates and administers the budget and long-range strategic plans. This individual promotes collaboration with Student Affairs and other institution and community entities to develop a comprehensive array of programs and services that address the seven dimensions of wellness. The Director ensures the Wellness & Health Promotion department advocates for and meets the needs and interests of diverse populations, cultivates inclusion and supports unit, division and institution priorities.
Direct the Wellness & Health Promotion department by promoting health and wellbeing in support of productivity and success of students, the institution and community. (25%)
Develop and promote a shared vision that drives departmental, divisional, and institutional priorities and the on-going organization of work.
Assist with the implementation of harm reduction strategies and evidence based practices related to alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention.
Possess content knowledge of Title IX, VAWA, and Campus SaVE Act laws and policies related to mandated education requirements.
Knowledge of worksite wellness initiatives and the importance of creating a culture of wellness for employees through strategic planning and programming
Possess knowledge of recreational programming such as fitness, nutrition, rock wall/climbing, outdoor adventure, intramurals and membership options.
Ensure operations, programs and services are critically evaluated for contribution to strategic, financial, and learning outcomes.
Foster a culture of impact on the student experience, reinforced by evidence-informed decision making and program/operational strategies grounded in best-practice and established theory.
Advocate for health and wellbeing as a core value of the institution and a responsibility of all campus community members.
Maintain and support effective collaborative relationships with various stakeholders in which the culture of health and wellbeing can flourish.
Support Wellness & Health Promotion staff in anticipating change and making significant or long-term adaptations in response to the needs of the campus.
Convene Wellness & Health Promotion leadership and strategic update meetings.
Provide leadership for Wellness & Health Promotion staff. (20%)

Optimize use of Wellness & Health Promotion resources to enhance quality, efficiency and sustainability. (20%)
Oversee development, implementation and management of all Wellness & Health Promotion budgets.
Monitor and review budgets to ensure efficient Wellness & Health Promotion operations and adherence to department and institutional strategic priorities.
Maintain revenue and expense projections in order to support sustainable operations and growth.
Identify and implement expense controls and revenue streams in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
Facilitate presentation of annual budget request to the Student Fee Advisory Committee.
Responsible for completion of budget submissions and/or presentations in accordance with support and primary unit processes.
Manage comprehensive maintenance program and operations of the Wellness Center facility. (25%)
Direct planning for facility projects, renovation, and upkeep needs.
Ensure appropriate systems are in place to manage the facility and operations in a manner that protect the interests of the participants, Wellness & Health Promotion, and the institution.
Develop, recommend, and oversee capital improvement projects and permanent equipment purchases, installation and repairs.
Provide supervision and direction of service and maintenance of all fixtures and systems on the Wellness Center grounds.
Participate on the Safety Management Team, which oversees a comprehensive risk management plan that strives to provide a safe and inclusive environment.
Oversight for and participation in the on call rotation, responding to facility staff needs.
Maintain Wellness & Health Promotion Safety Manual, Building Emergency Action Plan, and Continuity of Operations Plan.
Develop a plan for the long-term sustainability of the facility and its programs and services at the established level of quality.
Provide feedback regarding the safety of programs, equipment and facilities through daily observations and/or usage of said equipment and facilities.
Serve as the adviser to the Student Wellness Advisory Committee, ensuring communication with stakeholders on operations, budget, and other initiatives.
Serve as an active member of the Student Life Directors’ Team (10%)
Represent Wellness & Health Promotion on various campus committees and/or at conferences and professional activities on the university, state and national levels.
In conjunction with the Directors’ Team, assist in developing and applying policies and procedures within the division.
Assemble/finalize information for annual and other University and/or Wellness & Health Promotion reports.
Communicate and apply institutional policies.
Maintain professional knowledge required of the position.
Other duties as assigned.

Master’s Degree in recreation, business, facility management or related field
Four (4) years’ experience with increasing responsibility, in general facility and /or program management and business operations
Four (4) years’ experience supervising full and part time staff
Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
Successful completion of Criminal History Records Check
Work experience in a college or university setting
Experience in strategic and budget planning, risk management, development, assessment and capital replacement planning
