Campus Recreation at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director - Marketing and Communication. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director - Business Operations the incumbent is responsible for the image and brand identity of Campus Recreation through promotion of the department’s facilities, programs, and services. This is facilitated via the production of marketing materials and dissemination of department information through various media options in order to generate interest in the University community, as well as create a positive image for both the department and Towson University. The department of Campus Recreation is a high energy, dynamic organization with a mission to offer recreational opportunities promoting the development of student leaders and healthy lifestyles through physical activity and experiential education. The department is seeking a motivated professional interested in joining a growing team of equally dynamic and energetic staff members preparing for construction of a 94,500 square foot expansion to the current recreational facilities of Burdick Hall set to open in the fall of 2017. Responsibilities: Serve as the chief Campus Recreation marketing and communications officer; develop and implement a comprehensive and flexible annual marketing and communication plan; manage, oversee and develop communications, publications, web presences and promotional materials related to the department; direct design and production of departmental print, web and social media for; develop and manage website architecture and content strategy; lead the development and execution of social media strategy and content management; coordinate marketing related work and assignments between writers, designers, photographers and publishers; coordinate the purchasing, inventory and maintenance of all marketing technology and equipment; provide departmental technology support and technical issue resolution related to marketing media; develop a consistent, innovative, dynamic brand image that is reflective of Campus Recreation; develop brand standards and establish a visual identity for use in marketing and communications in compliance with Towson University’s brand standards; coordinate departmental participation in events for Undergraduate Marketing, New Student Programs and other campus/community information fairs; work in accordance with Associate Director, Programs & Assessment on overseeing program related assessment related to departmental learning outcomes and divisional goals; recruit, hire, train and directly supervise a diverse student marketing staff to administer and manage all marketing, public relations, technology and events as needed; provide budgetary oversight for all marketing and communications operations including student payroll, operational expenses and revenue generation; supervise campus recreation facilities and staff on designated evenings and weekends, as assigned; and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic or Web Design or related field and two years of experience or, Master’s degree with a graduate assistantship and one year of experience. The selected candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated experience developing high level electronic and multi-media marketing collateral; ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects; proficiency in graphic design, web management and/or social networking; demonstrated high level skills in writing press releases, newsletters and/or web content; in depth knowledge of design software and applications including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign or equivalent; demonstrated ability to produce basic video productions; and current CPR/AED certifications or ability to obtain certifications within 90 days of hire. Two years of graduate assistantship experience will count as one year of work experience. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
