The mission of Recreation Services (RS) is to promote overall student wellness. We accomplish our mission by providing organized and informal programs designed to engage the body and mind for the purposes of fun, fitness, social interaction, competition, skill acquisition, and adventure.
The Team Sports Intern will assist the Team Sports staff in the administration and management of all operational and programming aspects of a comprehensive intramurals sports program as well as administration of 33 diverse, student-run sport clubs. Some of the responsibilities include supervising, training, scheduling and evaluating student staff, leadership development, risk management, facility and event management, administrative support, maintenance of records, and communication/collaboration with student, university, and community organizations and individuals. Evening and weekend hours required. Terms of appointment are Mid-August to Mid-May 2017.
Team Sport Administration and Operation: (40%)
Assist with the administration and management of individual and team Intramural Sports activities.
Assist with the scheduling of leagues and tournaments, rule revisions, and program evaluations.
Assist with Sport Club program management and organization including: travel, fiduciary responsibilities, and fundraising opportunities.
Coordinate the Sport Club vehicle rental program to include conducting trainings, processing reservations, communication with drivers and University officials, and collection and documentation of travel paperwork.
Assist with risk management initiatives and the implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
Attend required staff trainings and meetings.
Field/Facility/Event/Equipment Management (30%)
Assist with organization and maintenance of team sport equipment, supplies, and fields.
Assists with field/facility requests, scheduling, and appropriate coverage for games, competitions, and practices.
Makes adjustments when possible regarding unforeseen needs for competitions and practices.
Student Staff Supervision (20%)
Coordinate the management, supervision, scheduling, training, and evaluation of student coordinators, officials, and supervisors for the Intramural Program.
Oversee event operations and supervise staff at home sport club events.
Other Duties as Assigned: (9%)
Assist in Recreation Services projects, events, and assigned duties as requested.
Work cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals
Recreation Program and Facilities Quality Control (1%): This position participates in the development of ideas and suggestions for program and facility improvement. The position is required to use various facilities and equipment periodically to ensure that they are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sport and recreation management, business or a related field
Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in officiating various sports, including basketball, soccer and flag football.
Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months of employment.
Experience supervising and training student officials.
Officiating experience in organized or recreational sports setting.
Experience working with administration of sport club teams.
Driver’s license, ability to obtain Commercial Motor Vehicle certification and DOT medical card, and ability to drive a 12 person van.
