Aquatics Graduate Assistant
The purpose of this position is to assist with the operation and implementation of the Aquatics program for the Recreation and Wellness department. This individual also hires, trains, and supervises a senior student assistant for the Aquatics area. Additional duties include scheduling, payroll, and the hiring and training of Aquatics student employees.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Abilities
Develop, implement, and market the Learn-to-Swim program for campus and community members.
Hold monthly meetings with student employees.
Maintain and coordinate student employee files.
Supervise, hire, and train aquatics employees (approximately 35 students).
Supervise senior student assistant in the aquatics program.
Regularly maintain and evaluate the knowledge and skills of all aquatics employees.
Evening supervision and event planning duties.
Coordinate department certification audit program.
Assist with Youth and Family program as needed.
Promote the mission Recreation and Wellness.
Provide other duties as needed, including
Attend professional and student staff meetings.
Support Student Employee Board (SEB) and Student Development and Leadership (SDL) activities.
Respond to questions regarding aquatics business.
Monitor and record attendance numbers in the aquatics areas.
Monitor, maintain, and order all CPR and First Aid supplies throughout the building.
Dispose of biohazard materials to the Student Health Center.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Certified Lifeguard, CPR/AED, WSI, and First Aid Instructor
Certified in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid
Strong customer service skills including interpersonal and presentation abilities
Attention to detail
Excellent marketing and computer software skills
Higher education experience (preferred)
Acceptance into BGSU Graduate College Degree program

Coordinator – Aquatics – Full Time (Anticipated) Position
Coordinate and oversee all Student Recreation Center aquatic rentals, equipment, and personnel, including aquatic maintenance collaboration and custodial services.
Schedule and coordinate aquatic instructional, intramural, sport club, intercollegiate, group rental, and program activities in cooperation with other RecWell staff.
Initiate aquatics contracts for major rental groups, small groups and individuals using approved template and negotiating rates.
Conduct the selection, training, assignment, in-service education, and supervision of all aquatics staff (Aquatics Graduate Assistant, Crew Chiefs, Lifeguards, and additional aquatics staff).
Monitor student employee, instructional, and equipment lines of the Aquatic budget.
Create, recommend, and implement a comprehensive Youth & Family program plan which considers space utilization, equipment needs, budget regulation, safety and emergency procedures, and quality standards.
Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate Youth & Family programs: Learn to Swim, Summer Day Camp, Birthday Party Program, School’s Out Camp, Spring Break Camp, and Parent’s Night Out.
Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of all Youth & Family programs.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Youth & Family program staff (Youth & Family staff, Birthday Party Coordinator, Birthday Party Hosts/Hostesses, Summer Camp Counselors and Instructors) while maintaining an environment that encourages professional development and personal growth.
Monitor and enforce State of Ohio Job & Family summer day camp compliance issues. (5%) Budget Management · Monitor student employee, instructional, and equipment lines of the Youth & Family budget.
Liaison with American Red Cross to maintain standard of care and compliance issues. Maintain current certifications and updates to properly train Health & Safety Staff with current standards of care within the industry.
Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of all Health & Safety programs.
Schedule and coordinate Health & Safety instructional programming for the entire Department of Recreation and Wellness, as well as the community.
Develop and implement a comprehensive Health & Safety program which considers space utilization, equipment needs, budget regulation, safety, and quality standards.
Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate Health & Safety Programs: Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Recertification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Full Course, CPR/PR with AED Challenge, Standard First Aid, Water Safety Instructor Course, and Lifeguard Instructor Course.
Develop and implement Recreational Sports Risk Management Audit Standards.
Train all supervisors how to properly implement the Risk Audit to their student employee staff.
Serve on a variety of University committees, assist in the conduct of various Student Affairs programs, serve as a resource aid and counselor for Recreation and Wellness student employees, especially those employed in the aquatic, youth & family, health & safety areas.

Informal Recreation - Student Recreation Center - Summer 2018 Internship
The purpose of this position is to assist with efficient facility management, Welcome Desk operations, special events and advertising/sponsorships for the Student Recreation Center (SRC). This individual would also supervise student employees (Center Managers and Customer Service Attendants) within the facility. Additional duties include facility rentals and reservations using management software, supervising special events, locker rentals, retail/inventory management and ensuring the facilities and exercise equipment are kept in good working order.
Coordinate SRC student staffs, consisting of Center Managers and Customer Service Attendants.
Create and maintain a working schedule for the Center Managers and Customer Service Attendants.
Complete and oversee the substitution process within your specific employment areas.
Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relations and rapport with SRC members.
Oversee locker rental processes and accurately maintain locker memberships.
Assist with facility rentals, including proper staffing levels and event set-up/clean-up.
Assist with event management.
Regular use of RecTrac recreation software.
Coordinate and maintain the layout (floor plan) of the exercise equipment.
Assist with advertising/sponsorship efforts for the department.
Familiarity with and competence in Student Recreation Center policies and operations.
Learn and demonstrate the mission of Recreation and Wellness.
Assist and make recommendations regarding the purchase of retail products and fitness equipment.
Assist in facility and equipment risk management evaluations and safety inspections.

This internship is a competitive/full-time internships designed for students who attend schools other than BGSU. Students have the ability for receive academic credit for internship experiences. Professional/full-time internships typically require 40 contact hours per week. These interns receive on-campus housing (summer only) and no additional compensation. This position is competitive, is available until flled, and recruitment is ongoing.

Additional Salary Information: A two-year program and commitment is anticipated, pending available funding. The 2017-18 stipend includes ~$10,000+ for nine months. Additional hourly-wage work opportunities exist.
