DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER AND VENUE MANAGEMENT

SUAR includes the area of Student Activity Center and Venue Management.
ABOUT THE JAMES H. BARNHARDT STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER AND JUDY ROSE FOOTBALL CENTER
The 232,000 square-foot James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center and Miltimore Wallis Athletic Training and Academic Complex is home to the 9,000-seat Halton Arena, five (5) multi-purpose meeting salons, multiple recreation courts, locker rooms, fitness spaces, locker rooms, and office complexes. The 15,000-seat Jerry Richardson Stadium and Judy Rose Football Center provide spaces and services to support the Forty-Niner football program.
The Director is responsible for overall administration and leadership for all services, facilities, and programs related to the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center and Miltimore Wallis Athletic Training and Academic Complex as well as the Jerry Richardson Stadium and Judy Rose Football Center. The position directly supervises five professional staff, with oversight for forty-three (43) full-time and sixty-five (65) part time employees.
Given the nature of activities and programs occurring within the various facilities, the Director works closely with Athletics, Recreational Services, Business Services, Student Activities, Facility Management, Financial Services and other aspects of the campus community. He/she develops and implements long-range renovation and equipment replacement plans; provides strategic direction for operations and revenue generation; is responsible for personnel management (hiring, supervision, evaluation, professional development); and also oversight for game day management for basketball, football, and volleyball as well as major events including but not limited to commencement, convocation, concerts, and admission/orientation/career fairs.
The Director reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and represents the department and division of Student Affairs on various committees, taskforces, and local, state and national organizations.
Successful candidate will possess the following:
Master's degree and six years of progressive experience managing/leading similar (multipurpose) facilities.
Strong multi-level supervisory experience with professional, trade, technical, and para-professional positions.
Demonstrated ability to develop/manage budgets and oversee and allocate fiscal resources.
Understanding of all aspects related to event management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to listen, clearly articulate thoughts/directions/expectations and develop reports/proposals and make presentations.
Knowledge of best practices and trends related to venue management, game day management, concessions/food service, student affairs, and higher education administration.
Political and organizational sensitivity.
Skill at developing effective partnerships, negotiating contracts/agreements, and resolving conflict.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, render thoughtful decisions, and motivate others to levels of excellence.
Knowledge of current trends, developments and best practices in medium to large size public assembly facilities.

Recreational Services is committed to inspiring the lifetime appreciation of a balanced, active, and healthy lifestyle. A student-focused approach is utilized by offering experiences that exceed the changing needs of a diverse University community. Recreational Services oversees programming for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs, Group Fitness, Personal Training, Special Events, Aquatics, and Student Employment as well as the operations of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities including Belk Gymnasium, a fitness center, and over 20 acres of natural and artificial turf fields. The University is currently in the preliminary planning phase for a new Health and Recreation Center.
