The department of Recreational Services at Kansas State University is now accepting applications for the position of Fitness and Wellness Associate (Coordinator). This is a newly created position that assists in managing a comprehensive fitness and wellness program, which includes group fitness, group training, fitness assessment, personal training and wellness programming. The Peters Recreation Complex is a 265,000 square foot facility that was recently expanded and renovated and includes four large group fitness studios, a private personal training studio and brand new functional training space.
This person will report directly to the Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness while being a contributing member to the full department team and involved in department wide initiatives. The position's primary focus will be leading the Group Fitness and Group Training program, including developing programming for the recently completed Performance Zones (http://recservices.k-state.edu/complex/PerformanceZones.html). The position will also assist with Personal Training and be part of the Kansas State University's Wildcat Wellness Coalition, which is a collaborative effort across campus involving other entities including Lafene Health Center, Counseling Services and others.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead the Group Fitness Program- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and schedule group fitness leaders as well as develop group fitness program and schedule
Lead the Group Training Program- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and schedule group training coaches along with development of the programming for the new Performance Zone area
Assist with administration of the Personal Training Program
Assist with the administration of campus wellness programming and initiatives including being a member of the Wildcat Wellness Coalition
Oversee the KIN academic courses, such as cycling, in partnership with K-State Global Campus
Assist with hosting and development of fitness based educational programming and certifications
Serve as a liaison for The Body Project
Manage payroll and budget for group fitness and group training instructors
Participate in Student Life and Recreational Services initiatives and complete other duties as assigned
Requires high school diploma and two years of relevant experience
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition and Wellness, Exercise Science, Recreation Management or a Related Field
One or more years of supervisory experiences in fitness, group exercise and personal training programming and management
Previous experience as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer with ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA or other nationally recognized organization
Leadership and supervisory skills to hire, train, motivate, supervise and evaluate employees as demonstrated through past supervision of staff
Demonstrate experience in personnel management
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
Current certifications with American Red Cross
AED/CPR/First Aid Instructor Level certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date
Ability to work evening and weekend hours

Additional Salary Information: This is a Full Time Unclassified hourly position. The minimum rate for this position is $15.67/hour. Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
