This position reports to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness within the Department of Campus Recreation. The Coordinator works collaboratively with departmental staff to aid the Director in developing and managing a comprehensive Campus Recreation program at the University at Albany.
Manage the daily operations for all departmental Fitness Centers including satellite and additional fitness spaces.
Develop, review, and revise policies for department fitness and wellness programming areas.
Manage and supervise student staff for fitness areas including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and payroll.
Oversee the creation, presentation, and implementation of the staffing budget for all fitness areas.
Provide leadership in the areas of student and recreational program development through the creation and implementation of continuing education, regular training sessions, and staff meetings.
Maintain an inventory and a preventative maintenance program of all fitness equipment.
Research and recommend fitness equipment purchases.
Evaluate, track, and compile statistical information for fitness areas including weekly, and semester measures.
Develop and administer special events and programs in the fitness areas.
Develop and implement instructional programs such as equipment orientations, fitness consultations, and power lifting.
Small Group Training:
Expand the Small Group Training program
Manage and supervise student instructors including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
Create policies and procedures for a Small Group Training program to include pricing, waivers, intake forms, and assessments/training protocol.
Oversee the Small Group Training budget.
Co-chair the Fitness & Wellness annual fair “Fit Fair.”
Develop new events and wellness based programs for the university community.
Work in coordination with campus wellness partners to offer programs to students and employees.
Develop a mobile wellness program to take Campus Recreation offerings to other areas of the campus.
Create workshops for Campus Recreation employees to address all areas of wellness.
Assist in the creation and implementation of a Personal Training program
Create and implement policies and procedures for the Personal Training program to include pricing, waivers, intake forms, and assessment procedures
Oversee the creation, presentation, and implementation of the Personal Training budget
Hire, train, develop, schedule, and evaluate Personal Trainers
Create a certification program for students utilizing a national certifying body (I.e. ACE or ACSM curriculum)
Assists in establishing and implementing program goals and objectives
Assists the director in creating the department's strategic plan
Interacts with Director and staff members regarding topics to help identify opportunities for improvement
Work with all Campus Recreation professional staff members to actively communicate and market all programs through print media, electronic media, social media, special events and any other efforts deemed appropriate to effectively reach the University Community
Maintains a positive relationship with other personnel and departments that assist in the development of Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities
Maintain current knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform and/or teach and/or assess training programs, including the research of industry trends
Represents the Department of Campus Recreation and The University at Albany on various committees, boards, and associations
Interacts with students, faculty, and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the department
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion Sports Administration, Athletic/Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration and/or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
2-3 years of relevant experience in fitness center management, and small group or personal training

Personal Training certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM or comparable organization
CPR and AED Certified
Master's degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Sports Administration, Recreation, Athletic/Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration and/or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
2-3 years of demonstrated experience in successful management of student staff in a collegiate recreational fitness program
Group Exercise certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM or comparable organization, or willing to obtain upon hire
Ability to teach and train staff to instruct a variety of group fitness classes
Ability to teach and train students through an in-house Personal Training program
NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
Knowledge of nutritional guidelines and principles
CPR and AED Instructor certified or ability to obtain upon hire
Membership and participation in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA)
