Lyon College seeks a dynamic individual to serve as the Director of Outdoor Recreation and Education. The Outdoor Recreation Program includes the Lyon Education and Adventure Program (LEAP), intramurals, aquatics, club sports, and the Outdoor Leadership Program Concentration. LEAP offers both on and off-site programming including adventure trips, clinics, races, and tournaments. LEAP overs a wide variety of outdoor equipment rentals for Lyon students, faculty and staff. Lyon’s campus has a full service bike shop, 24-hour access bouldering wall, an 18-hole disc golf course, a 5-mile mountain biking/hiking trail, and the Highland Adventure Challenge Course. The Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) academic concentration prepares student staff to facilitate day, weekend, and extended outdoor recreational trips and clinics as well as develop both hard and soft skills for outdoor adventures. LEAP offers student leaders the opportunity to participate in nationally recognized workshops and certifications and to develop as leaders and mentors through the outdoor experiences.
The best applicants will have documented supervision of student and/or professional staff, strong oral and written communication skills, group facilitation skills, and technical and instructional proficiency in a number of outdoor pursuits, including but not limited to: rock climbing, water sports, backpacking, and cycling. A master’s degree in recreational sports management, administration, exercise science/physiology, health and human performance, psychology, or related field is required as well as current Wilderness First-Responder.
