The University of Akron is now accepting applications for the Coordinator of Informal Recreation and Facilities position. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the Student Recreation and Wellness Services department, the Coordinator, Informal Recreation and Facilities manages, schedules, and coordinates the daily operation of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. This position is responsible for hiring, training, evaluating and supervising facility student employees and assists in the development and application of employee training in safety, customer service and event management. The coordinator is responsible for facility reservations and supervision of events. They assist all Pro Shop sales and operations.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 65 student staff for the following positions: facility supervisor, membership supervisor, front desk, equipment checkout, court monitor, and custodial.
Organize, implement, and provide on-site supervision of special programs/events within recreation facilities and campus wide.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training for all operational areas including risk management, employee manuals, patron conduct, facility counts, and daily facility operations.
Coordinate Informal Recreation schedule for court space and open recreation time, ensuring a diverse offering of drop-in sports to meet the needs of the campus community.
Work with department programs, university departments, and community patrons for scheduling, billing and contracts, personnel, supervision and other duties related to facility reservations.
Maintain inventory and recommend purchases of equipment for checkout and other facility operation supplies.
Support membership sales, guest pass sales, Pro Shop sales, and related fiscal policies and procedures including sourcing and inventory of retail items.
Operate facility/membership management software.
Design and deliver student training and development opportunities that align with industry best practices and increase student buy-in.
Assist in development, implementation and assessment of operations and programs, as well as developing and maintaining long range and short term financial goals and plans.
Develop program yearly budget, tracking and reporting, compiling revenue information on a per-session, semester, and fiscal year basis. Monitor expenditures and payroll to meet budget goals.
Provide excellent customer service and assist in resolving patron issues. Oversee patron disciplinary issues and resolve patron concerns. Develop daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports, and compile assessments of data for reporting purposes.
Assist in operation of SRWS aquatic program to include facility operations, policy and procedure management, and special event management.
Assist with inspections and upkeep of facilities under Student Recreation and Wellness Services, identifying maintenance needs and submitting repair requests as needed.
Serve as department liaison to student, campus, and community groups and serve on campus committees as needed.
Work with the Department of Student Recreation & Wellness Services to support its mission of providing high quality programming, engaging and developing students in a manner that enhances their ability to be successful, adding to the campus experience and representing The University of Akron to the highest standards.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
American Red Cross CPR Instructor (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
2+ years’ experience in collegiate recreation
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks
Supervisory experience of students, strong oral and written communication and the ability to work a non-traditional work week
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social justice, cultural competence, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Computer skills to include Excel, Word, Power Point, membership/facility management software (CSI)
Master’s degree in Sports Administration, recreation or related field and collegiate recreation facility/event experience
Basic accounting skills
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
When To Work or similar employee scheduling software experience
Experience with time management systems for swim meets
