Loyola Marymount University has an opening for an Assistant Director of Campus Recreation (Fitness and Wellness) in the Campus Recreation department. This position will organize a wide range of events and services to meet the recreational needs of the LMU community. This position will also administer the fitness and wellness program, which includes a comprehensive fitness class schedule, wellness programs, fitness fairs, and the supervision of personal trainers and fitness instructors. Duties include, but are not limited to recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating off campus fitness instructors and undergraduate fitness staff, and developing and maintaining a comprehensive fitness class schedule which appeals to a diverse student, faculty, staff, and alumni population. The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation (Fitness and Wellness) will also supervise off campus instructor payroll and in campus work-study usage; in addition to negotiating pay-rates for all fitness instructors. This person will also provide regular routine equipment inspections and perform maintenance as needed for all equipment used during fitness classes as well as assist in the development of risk management procedures for Fitness Classes. Responsibilities also include initiating wellness programs and workshops designed to meet the needs of the LMU community, planning and implementing special events that focus on fitness and wellness, maintaining accurate records and participation data for all related programs, conduct performance evaluations of fitness instructors, and implementing an assessment survey to determine member satisfaction. The Assistant Director will also serve as the sole administrator for the Department and the Burns Recreation Center when acting as Manager on Duty, Keep up-to-date with regional and national trends by becoming actively involved in community, regional and national organizations associated with fitness and wellness, serve on University wide, Divisional, and Department committees as assigned by the Associate Director and serve as University Judicial Officer as needed.
The successful candidate should possess experience with student development and personnel management. Practical experience working within an institution of Higher Education preferred. A demonstrated knowledge in Fitness/ Wellness program development and management, supervision of para-professional staff, and experience implementing personal training programs for a variety of individuals. Candidates should also be able to effectively organize and manage a comprehensive fitness/wellness program, develop working relationships with individuals on and off campus, and to develop creative and innovative fitness programs. Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills and must be a certified fitness instructor with the ability to teach a variety of fitness classes and maintain certification as a Personal Trainer.
