Adelphi Campus Recreation Seeks Applicants with experience to apply for (3) Graduate Assistant Positions as follows:
1. Informal Recreation/Student Development
Duties include but not limited to:
Assist with the day to day operations of campus recreation facilities and informal recreation staff.
Coordinate the informal recreation staff and all aspects of recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and monitoring of this staff including front desk, gym, fitness center attendants, lifeguards and building supervisors.
Updating and utilizing staff scheduling software (Subitup) on a regular basis to perform a variety of tasks including entering new staff, checking schedules and subs, etc.
Implementation of staff development initiatives such as Staff incentive program, staff recognition, professional development projects and community building activities.
Implement aquatics programming such as Adult Learn to Swim Classes.
Duties include but not limited to:
Assist in the organization, administration, operations of Recreational Fitness Programming such as group exercise classes and specialty fitness programs
Assist in the daily operations of the fitness center and functional fitness studio.
Manage fitness class schedules and participation as well as participant communication through IM Leagues.
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of group fitness instructors, helpers and fitness attendants.
Assist in ongoing fitness center equipment maintenance
Implement Fitness Special Events and on campus initiatives in fitness such as, Panther Powerlift
3. Intramural Sports and Special Events
Plan and implement all intramural leagues and tournaments such as Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer by utilizingIMLeagues.
Hire, train, schedule and supervise intramural supervisors and officials as well as special event staff.
Work as primary planner for campus-wide events. This includes working with other departments on committees, planning the schedule of events, tracking the budget and preparing all necessary paperwork for event expenses, purchasing prizes and event supplies and implementing the events.
Assist in the planning and implementation of all Recreation sponsored special events including Rec the Night and Spike-It as well as support other department and student run special events.
Help plan and coordinate all equipment rental requests and work with campus groups on planning their recreational activities and events.
Applicants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and be applying to or be pursuing a graduate degree from Adelphi in Physical Education, Sport Management, Exercise Science or a related business field. Experience working in a related recreational sports setting is also required. Red Cross certification in First Aid and CPR for the professional rescuer will be required upon starting.
Persons with a strong desire to work in a recreational setting are preferred.
Fitness Certification (or equivalent in experience or course work in exercise science) are desirable for the Fitness GA.
Experience in a collegiate intramural sport setting is desirable for Intramural GA.
Tuition Remission for 9 graduate credits per semester and monetary stipend of $3,000 per semester in exchange for:
20-25 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters
Supervisory coverage during January and Spring Breaks as needed
Attendance (work) at Freshmen Orientation Program (6 days) in July
Attend required training/planning sessions 1 week prior to start of each semester
Professional Development Opportunities & Expectations:
Regional conference and other travel opportunities such as local and regional workshops, tournaments, etc.
GA’s are encouraged to get involved in the NIRSA as volunteers or presenters, and to attend other professional meetings at the local or national level.
Opportunities to participate in departmental or campus committees.
Maintain current CPR/AED/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
Bachelor's Degree required. Experience as a supervisor or related position in a campus recreational setting is preferred. Applicants should make application to the graduate program of their choice at Adelphi while being considered as an applicant for the assistantship position.
Additional Salary Information: Graduate Assistants receive 9 graduate credits and $3000 per semester for the fall and spring semesters.
