The Department of Campus Recreation at East Tennessee State University is accepting applications for Assistant Director of Sport Programs.
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Sport Programs is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the University’s recreational sport programs (intramural and club); providing University community with comprehensive intramural sport program; providing management and leadership to the University’s Sport Club program, including policy review and implementation, budgeting, and sport club officer development.
Develops and implements a comprehensive intramural sports and sport club program including establishing, implementing, and enforcing intramural and sport club program policies and procedures
Hires, supervises, evaluates, and mentors graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers working for the intramural and sport club programs; leads intramural officiating clinics and workshops
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive intramural and sports club program by completing administrative functions such as, but not limited to scheduling, budgeting, and marketing
Plans, implements, and evaluates individual and intramural team sports (leagues, meets, races, tournaments, etc.) and conducts meetings and training sessions to instruct and inform intramural team captains of program policies and procedures
Trains student employees in proper risk management practices and emergency response and ensures accident/incident reports are completed by student employees; maintains documentation related to all accident/incidents
Maintains responsibility for enforcing the intramural sportsmanship code, conducting disciplinary meetings and enforcing sanctions
Advises clubs, club officers, student advisory boards, and prospective clubs in all aspects of club administration, with an emphasis on management, leadership, and communication. Conducts meetings and training sessions for club officers
Reviews club budget proposals, individual club expenditures, and manages Sport Club program budget and oversees club funding allocations
Supervises and monitors club activities including practices, home competitions, and travel
Monitors, inspects, and reports on Campus Recreation facilities utilized by the Intramural and Sport Club programs
Maintains web pages and social media sites applicable to areas of responsibility
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management or related field. Minimum one (1) years in Campus Recreation working with intramurals or sport clubs; graduate assistant experience accepted. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain. Demonstrated ability to officiate one (1) sport of the following: flag football, basketball, volleyball, softball/baseball, or soccer; Previous experience in training officials.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field. Two (2) years of professional experience in Campus Recreation working with intramural or sport clubs. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor’s certification preferred.
