Responsible for the overall planning, assessment and coordination of all fitness programming; supervises the fitness coordinator, graduate and undergraduate staff; coordinates selected well-being programs and special events.

Develop an overall plan inclusive of goals and objectives for the implementation of fitness, fitness assessment, personal training, group fitness and well-being programs.
Manage all administrative operations; including reconciling operating budget, equipment purchasing and inventory, maintaining staff schedules, verifying payroll, managing participant registration and writing weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual program reports.
Partners with departmental leadership in developing, maintaining and evaluating program and equipment standards, policies and procedures (including risk management policies, safety regulations and emergency procedures, standard operating procedures and fitness staff manuals)
Perform regular assessments of fitness programming and fitness facilities and equipment; interpret/analyze results and make recommendations to leadership for improvements
Oversee all documentation for fitness programs and ensure confidentiality and proper documentation of fitness assessment and personal training participant records.
Recruit, hire, train, manage the work functions, mentor and assess work performance of the Fitness Coordinator, graduate and undergraduate staff.
Oversee regular continuing education in-service workshops with personal trainers and group fitness instructors to further fitness knowledge and fitness technique.
Train student staff in CPR/First Aid/AED and PDT as needed.
Manages and reviews annual certifications that students need and maintains records.
Oversee the planning and coordination of instructional training programs including Train to be a Trainer and Fitness Instructor Training Class.
Identify potential risk associated with various types of fitness programming and maintain standards to ensure a safe environment; manages emergency procedures.
Coordinates special maintenance projects for all fitness facilities with operations staff, physical plant and outside contractors when necessary.
Develop routine maintenance schedules and safety checklists, ensure proper documentation and coordinate inspection schedules.
Collaborate with marketing staff to identify and develop marketing strategies and promotional efforts to educate campus community about fitness and wellness programming.
Evaluate participant concerns or complaints and responds with resolution
Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Director(s) and Director of Campus Recreation
Degree, Training and Experience Requirements
Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science/Physiology or related field.
Personal Training and Group Fitness Instruction experience required and related national certifications preferred. Demonstrated involvement with implementation and management of group fitness programs, personal training and wellness programs as well as management of all fitness related areas.
Additional Training and Experience Preferred:
Five years collegiate recreation programming experience or 5-6 years recreation programming for a municipal recreation program and related experiences; Preferred experience for ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of direct fitness experience along with professional staff and student personnel supervision.
Supervision of professional staff in collegiate recreation environment.
Special Certification Preferred (must be obtained within 6 months of employment):
Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.), Automated External Defibulator (A.E.D.) Certifications and Bloodborne Pathogen Training
American Red Cross Instructor Certification
ACE Personal Training & Primary Group Fitness Certifications
Yoga and/or Pilates Certification/Training
