Position Title: Rockwall and Outdoor Adventure Coordinator*

This position will provide experiential learning opportunities through the outdoor medium for a diverse university community. Responsible implementing, developing and managing of all Outdoor Adventure programs, the climbing wall, as well as managing risk of Rockwall, Outdoor Program, Program Equipment and Outdoor Program Trips. This position includes managing, planning, promoting, staff training and development, documentation, assessment and evaluation of all Rockwall and Outdoor Adventure related programs and services. The Rockwall and Outdoor Adventure Coordinator works in conjunction with other ASI programs and departments to promote Titan Recreation programs to a diverse and inclusive student, faculty, staff and community population.
Design, plan, administer, and evaluate a comprehensive outdoor adventures, climbing wall, outdoor adventure trips and experiential learning programs. This includes the development and management of a student assistant trip leader skills curriculum, provide supervision and leadership with the trip leaders and ensure that all outdoor trips adhere to standard operational procedures. Confirms that all student assistant trip leaders develop the necessary skill sets that will enable them to effectively lead trips as a trip leader. Ensures that all trip leaders are maintaining proper training, certifications and experience levels that are relates to the specific trips that they lead. Develops and maintains standard operational procedures manual that will ensure the proper risk management of all outdoor adventure trips.
Oversee the utilization, operation, and maintenance of climbing wall and other Campus Recreation facilities including administration, enforcement of policies and procedures, and overall daily operations.
Develops and conducts on-going trainings, inspections and route setting for the rock wall, including conducting belay training of student staff, teaching and supervision of belay course to participants, periodic inspections of the rock wall to ensure safety and teach and supervise proper route setting. Develops and implements a thorough risk management plan for rock wall.
Coordinate recruitment; make recommendations for employment; hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and terminate student staff for area specific programs.
Manage a comprehensive risk management program and maintain a record keeping system for all areas within the program.
Facilitate participant registration, forms, and waivers.
Facility and Space Management
Manage the general use of the rock wall, develop and manage the challenge course, resource center and rental center by all users. Insure appropriate and safe use of the space and related equipment, showing particular concern for participant and public safety and instructional liability. Insure appropriate course curriculum or coaching methods are being utilized.
Coordinate all users into a master schedule. Consult and advise users as needed regarding facility capability, activity coordination, equipment use, special events, changes or special needs.
Oversee preparation of a monthly calendar of events for distribution to all user groups and the departments.
Coordinate and supervise all special event activities as needed to include outside event rentals, conference groups, and other activities. Make recommendations as needed regarding program displacement, income potential and center needs. Coordinate with department staff for provision of services.
In coordination with the Facility Manager, plan daily and preventive maintenance programs to insure the integrity of the space and related equipment
Request approval of appropriate space needs, service requests, purchase orders or contracts with campus or other organizations for reservations, custodial maintenance or related supplies and services.
Coordinate with other agencies, or when appropriate conduct safety inspections of the facility and equipment.
Through consultation with facility managers, insure maintenance of a centralized inventory record of all equipment and maintenance logs.
Submit requests for any outside use or rental of space to facility managers. Initiate all contractual agreements and forward to department for approval. Oversee pick-up and transport of equipment and oversee collection and account of rental fees
In cooper' at ion with department staff and other subordinate staff, research information and submit relevant information and submit relevant material to Director of Titan Recreation related to minor and major capital improvement projects according to departmental timelines
Develop budgets, financial projections and monitors monthly financial statements for all Outdoor Adventure related programs and services.
Initiates cost-containment measures or revenue generation strategies to ensure the program meets or exceeds financial expectations.
Prepares reports and projections as needed or requested, insuring information is complete and accurate.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four year college or university with major course work in Outdoor Recreation Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Management, Education or related field; and two year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Requires: Current California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by ASI. Current Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR). Preferred: Current or previous Professional Climbers Instructors Association (PCIA), Climbing Wall Association (CWA) or American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Climbing Wall Instructor or completion of PCIA, AMGA or equivalent base-managed rock climbing course.
Experience working in a collegiate recreation environment
Experience managing multiple projects and people simultaneously
Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong knowledge, demonstration and management of outdoor recreation programs and services including equipment rental, outdoor trips, climbing wall; outdoor recreation staff supervisory experience including hiring, training and evaluating; background and knowledge of risk assessment and rick management, as it relates to outdoor recreational knowledge and demonstration of student development theories and practices; strong leadership skills demonstrating collaborative partnerships, strategic planning, and budget management excellent skills in organization, communication, customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial report and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or member of the campus community. Ability to effectively present information to employees, management, student groups and/or boards of directors.
Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
Must have A+ certification
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Must be able to pass a pre-employment urine drug screen. First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment. Employment will be contingent on a satisfactory employment history and criminal background investigation. Subject to DMV Pull program requiring valid driver’s license, current auto insurance be on file at all times and must meet CSURMA driving standards. May be required to drive occasionally as needed.

Titan Recreation is a deoartment of the Associated Students, CSUF, Inc for California State University, Fullerton. The department is responsible for all non-credit physical education, recreation, and fitness programming and operates the Student Recreation Center on the main campus and a satellite fitness center on the Cal State Fullerton Irvine Campus. The Student Recreation Center is the home of Titan Recreation and opened in March 2008 earning the first LEED Gold rating for new construction on the campus and continues to strive toward green and sustainable daily operating practices.
The 95,000 square foot center includes a 3 court gymnasium, indoor track, indoor rockwall, four activity studios, racquetball courts, and over 17,000 square feet of floor space dedicated to strength and cardio equipment.
This award winning, state of the art facility, serves as the main venue for most Titan Recreation programs including but not limited to...: intramural sports, drop in fitness, instructional classes, aquatics, American Red Cross certification programs, personal training, and summer youth programs.
