The Associated Students is now recruiting for the position of Adventure Outings Operations Coordinator. This is a full-time, full-year, non-exempt position with full benefits. Under direct supervision of the Adventure Outings Program Director, the Operations Coordinator will assist with the development and implementation of specific Adventure Outings programs including the Equipment Rental Center and indoor climbing gym. This person will also manage the fleet of vehicles and trailers, train and assess drivers, and will assist with hiring, training, and supervision of staff and do related work as required. Responsibilities: Oversee the WREC Climbing Gym including staff, budget, policies, training, and maintenance. Supervise Adventure Outings Equipment Rental Center including staff, budget, policies, training, and equipment purchasing and maintenance. Manage & maintain AO’s backcountry yurt. Provide basic vehicle and climbing wall maintenance and service. Train staff for commercial driving tests and maintain regular driver’s reviews. Supervise annual CHP inspections. Attend weekly staff meetings and assist in the general administration of Adventure Outings. Lead trips and events as needed. Lead staff trainings and orientations. Assist in annual program assessment and safety review. Assist in writing program manuals, policies, and procedures. Facilitate awareness of legal, liability, and safety issues for activities. Maintain professional relations with a variety of regulatory agencies. Represent the Adventure Outings programming and activities in contacts with the campus community, the public, and other organizations. Other duties may be assigned.
Experience: Two (2) years of administrative or graduate assistant level experience is required in the development, supervision/management, training, implementation, and conduct of outdoor recreational activities, equipment rental, and logistics. Specific experience in coordinating and programming outdoor recreation for a campus population and familiarity with indoor climbing walls, rock climbing, and equipment repair is highly desirable. Experience with other outdoor programs such as NOLS or Outward Bound is preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Outdoor Education, or a related field is required. Master’s degree in a related area is preferred. Coursework related to outdoor recreation or recreation administration is highly desirable.
Special Requirements: Possession of valid California Class C Commercial Driver's license (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire) and an acceptable driving record. Possession of current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications. Technical competence in rock climbing and top-rope site management. Possession of current certification through PCIA or AMGA preferred. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
