40% Personnel Supervision:
Responsible for the development and direct supervision of professional staff; Coordinates professional development plans for staff growth and improved performance; Ensures staff adherence to time & attendance policies; Conducts annual evaluations of full time professional; Provides leadership and visioning with all professional program area staff; Maintains positive co-worker relationships and fosters an environment of trust and inclusion.
20% Program & Budget Management:
Oversee the operation of the programs component of University Recreation to include fitness & wellness, adventure education, intramurals, sport clubs, camps and campus collaboration initiatives; Develops and implements strategic planning, policies, and processes that ensure the continued growth and development of University Recreation programs; Oversees budget development and reconciliation for the all programs areas; Works with program area coordinators to develop and maintain area budgets; Assists with the development of the department budget; Conducts routine financial analysis to include return on investment, cost-benefit, and cost per participant; Assists with the development and implementation of pricing strategies.
20% Planning and Assessment:
Serves on the leadership team for the development and implementation of the department strategic plan; directly coordinates the programs component of the strategic plan and acts as the department liaison and lead for assessment; Assists with the development of program area marketing and public relations plan to include branding strategies and market research.
20% Involvement and Communication:
Provide feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and operations by conducting daily observations/engaging in programs and using equipment/facilities; Reports & resolves safety concerns with functional area supervisors as needed; Is active professionally through research, publications, presentations and involvement in professional associations; Represent University Recreation for various University/community functions, committee work; Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the department’s culture of teamwork; Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success; Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.
Master's degree in Sport Management, Leisure Studies, Recreation, Sport Science, Communications or related field with 7 years of full-time experience as a professional that requires budget management, personnel supervision, and strategic planning and program development along with prior experience in large scale program/event planning.
A broad understanding and experience in a wide range of recreation programs and campus partnership along with 2 years of experience supervising full-time professional staff.
