40% Personnel Supervision and Training:
Conduct regular, monthly student staff meetings for information sharing, problem-solving, staff feedback, staff support, and mentoring; Participate in the planning and implementation of staff safety training and preparedness evaluation; Conduct research in order to maintain progressive and innovative systems/services as they relate to recreation programming and student development; Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate the fitness assistants; Manage fitness staff schedules for coverage during all hours of operation.
20% Asset & Fiscal Management:
Ensure all fitness and weight room equipment is safe and usable; Coordinate with the assistant director of operations on all preventative maintenance and repairs; Manage inventory control to prevent equipment loss; Monitor and maintain accurate student payroll; Develop replacement schedule for cardio equipment; Assist with developing annual operating budget; Recommend purchases of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for program operations.
20% Program Coordination:
Oversee the daily operation of fitness areas at the Student Recreation Center and Nicholson; Develop and implement accurate written records (manuals, operating procedures, etc.) that guide program operations; Participate in program area planning, goal setting, and assessment; Prepare and submit semester and annual usage reports; Assist with university-wide collaboration and outreach efforts; Provide direct response to participant concerns and assist in conflict management and resolution regarding program issues; Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as determined by department and function need.
20% Program & Professional Involvement:
Provide feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and operations by conducting daily observations/engaging in programs and using equipment/facilities; Immediately report safety concerns to the functional area supervisor; Be active professionally through research, publications, presentations, speaking engagements, and involvement in professional associations; Maintains positive co-worker relationships and fosters an environment of trust and inclusion; Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the department’s culture of teamwork; Represent University Recreation for various University/community functions, committee work, and other duties as assigned; Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success; Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as determined by department & function need.
Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion/Education, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field with 1 year of experience in management of a fitness facility.
Master's degree in Health Promotion/Education, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field with 3 years of experience in management of a fitness facility in a university recreation environment.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Ability to work flexible hours; some nights and weekends.
Required: Personal Training Certification from Nationally Accredited Association
