The Fitness Coordinator provides assistance with the leadership for a diverse, dynamic and comprehensive fitness program which includes group fitness, personal training, fitness/wellness programming, fitness assessments/screenings and trainee programs. The Fitness Coordinator actively creates learning environments that empower student employees to create safe, inclusive and accessible recreational environments for the University community. The primary purpose of this position is to directly interact with students and enhance their academic and learning experience outside the classroom setting by providing selected candidates within the field of study with experiential education. The position coordinates the fitness programs/services with other EXSS offerings, fitness staff scheduling, staff learning opportunities (on the job training and mentoring) and assessment/implementation/evaluation of the fitness program. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Fitness.
One year of professional experience at the collegiate level in the organization and administration of fitness programming and group fitness instruction (two years of Graduate Assistant experience).
Current certification in at least one of the following areas ACSM Health Fitness Instructor, ACE Exercise Leader and/or Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor, and/or CSCS/NASM certification and have current CPR, AED and First Aid
Ability to organize and administer group fitness instructor/personal training preparation
Must possess strong interpersonal skills, proven written and organization skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field
