The Digital Media Coordinator develops and oversees the execution of a strategic social and digital media plan for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) under the direction of ASI Communications management. The incumbent shall coordinate with internal stakeholders and campus partners to enhance and protect the ASI online image and reputation, and promote the ASI mission across all platforms as deemed necessary. The incumbent will assess ongoing practices and provide analysis of social media trends and their impact to ASI and recommend needed improvements to the team. The incumbent will also be responsible for the management of the video production unit of ASI Communications, The Digital Media Coordinator will work with ASI Communications management and coordinate with ASI Media as well as perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans and executes a corporate social media strategy in accordance with ASI and campus policies to increase engagement online and to drive participation and support for ASI programs and services.
Develops policy regarding social media for ASI departments and programs, subject to review and approval by ASI management.
Builds and optimizes a social media community through ongoing, consistent engagement that maximizes the engagement of current CSULB students, alumni and guests.
Writes and frequently posts new content on all social media channels that are consistent with the ASI brand. Develops and/or revises text and photos for online communities, press releases, web articles, and video blogs.
Provides assessment tracking and reporting on key performance indicators of online activity for all social media channels and specific campaigns by preparing monthly analytic reports with analytics for management to determine the most efficient allocation of social media resources.
Provides an accurate and timely response to all user questions on all media channels reflecting the ASI brand.
Maintains editorial calendar for key initiatives to provide creative and professional interactions on a daily basis. Directs the day to day updating, maintenance and continuity of social media outlets including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, BeachSync, YouTube, Pinterest and other relevant social media vehicles.
Monitors and responds to departments as needed in their implementation of social and digital media initiatives. Acts as a resource for social media utilization, best practices, and to ASI departments and students.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the video production unit of ASI Communications; oversees the production of various ASI-focused shows and programs according to the marketing and public relation needs of ASI.
Provides appropriate guidance and direction for video production and social media units including, but not limited to: employee training, business practices, participant safety, programmatic efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
In coordination with ASI Communications management, oversees video pre- and post-production including script writing, proposal and timeline development, selection of on- and off-screen talent and the overall management of video production efforts.
Responsible for the development of students’ overall professional development and enhancement of their skills in the areas of PR, marketing, video production and social media.
Regularly provides feedback of insights gained from digital media monitoring to the ASI Communications and programs team, to ensure that maximum outreach is fully integrated with print, web, PR and print marketing efforts in a timely fashion.
Directly supervises up-to seven (7) student employees and up to 20 volunteers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university in educational communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or job-related field; and one or two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of public relations and marketing principles, practices and major trends in higher education, college unions or nonprofit organization settings; general knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of research techniques.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, professional vendors, and members of the local community. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with campus community and public agencies. Ability to work with a variety of diverse backgrounds.
