Cornell Recreational Services offers a wide variety of fitness, wellness, sports and open recreation activities for Cornell students, staff, faculty, retirees and their spouses/partners. Through our broad-based programs, we try to promote a healthy and holistic lifestyle throughout the campus community.
The mission of Intramural Sports is to establish fun and inviting playing environments for all skill levels. More than 30 leagues and tournaments are offered to the entire University community each school year. Participation opportunities for men’s, women’s, and co-recreational play are provided. Contests, meets, leagues, and tournaments will be offered in various formats. Reporting to the Director of Intramural Sports, the goal of the internship is to receive continuing education in campus recreation through immersive, on-site training and application. This position will provide a more comprehensive knowledge base and is aligned toward the preparation for the field of collegiate campus recreation.
As a member of the Recreational Services Profession staff will participate and assist with daily operation of the Intramural Sports program (80%) and with Recreational Services activities (20%).
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Fitness or related field and assurance that this experience will meet internship requirements.
Demonstrated experience and success in the management of personnel, intramural sports, and/or officiating experience with the ability to work well in a diverse population.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Current First Aid, AED and CPR Certifications
Must be able to work evenings, weekends, university breaks and special events as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in basic computer application on the PC with experience in Microsoft Office programs, Web design and experience with IMLeagues is preferred.
Strong leadership, customer service, and decision making skills.
Interest in a career in campus recreation with Undergraduate experience in Recreational Sports.
Knowledge of fitness equipment and an understanding the proper use.
Background in computer programming and website design, maintenance and development.
CPR/First Aid Instructor Trainer Certification
Familiarity with the NIRSA organization and the NIRSA Championship Series

NOTES:
Additional Salary Information: The internship is a full-time, ten-month appointment (August 1st - May 31st) with an allowance of $1,550/month. Professional development opportunities will be provided as budget allows.
