Under direct supervision of the Associate Director of Competitive Sports, the Graduate Assistant will consist of a semester/year long, hands-on learning experience where the GA will offer their vision for competitive sports, develop and implement new programs, execute and assess existing programs for effectiveness and growth, participate in special event and summer camp planning/execution, design and execute student training programs, and promote awareness of competitive sports opportunities among the campus community.
Position description and Duties
Assist with directing Intramural and Club Sports events including- game management, risk management, student staff supervision, and participant relations at the Marietta campus.
Work directly with Department of Sports & Recreation Competitive Sports (DS&R CS) to develop, plan, and execute student staff and Club Sports Officer training on both Marietta and Kennesaw campuses including officiating clinics, Lunch and Learns, Leadership Academy and other programs and events within Competitive Sports
Responsible for marketing and promoting Department of Sports & Recreation Competitive Sports (DS&R CS) events including outreach, generating interest, and assessing the campus student population for Competitive Sports interests/programs
Assist with planning, organizing, administering, and assessing comprehensive Intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and schedules for the Marietta campus
Provide feedback and recommendations for Competitive Sports events/programs based on campus community feedback, comments, interactions
Participate in the development and planning of Summer Camp
Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student employees
Assist with the administration of student employee payroll
Collaborate with student staff
Must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified (or within one month of hire)
Other duties as assigned
Education- Bachelor’s degree required. GRE minimum score of combined 290 or higher on verbal and quantitate categories. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to applicants in a recreation, exercise science or higher education degree program.
Experience- Applicant should have previous experience working with a sports program, with preference toward applicants who have worked as a program assistant/supervisor for an Intramural or Club sports program or served in a leadership role within a university recognized Club Sport.
Skills- must be able to efficiently use Microsoft Office and Adobe products, highly efficient time management skills, strong presentation and planning skills, and the ability to function well as a team member.
Organization- must be highly organized and have strong time management skills. Must be able to work both independently with high self-motivation as well as under supervision.
20 hours per week- night and weekend work is expected
Stipend and Waiver
This program carries a full tuition waiver (in-state or out-of-state), as well as a $14,000 annual stipend. This waiver is contingent upon acceptance into a Graduate School program and the waiver picked up by the Graduate College. The appointment will begin August of 2018 and conclude May of 2020. Student fees, school application fees and some other expenses may still need to be covered by the individual filling this position.
