Under direct supervision of the Outdoor Adventure and Wellness Coordinator assists with administrative and operational duties of the facility by working with full-time and student staff in all areas of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) facility. In addition, the position will assist in the continued development and daily operations of the program through supervision of planned adventure programs and the personal and professional development of students, faculty, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator with various operations and projects. Including operational policy development and review, project proposal development, program assessment, and equipment maintenance and inventory tracking.
Assists in management of trip and service processes: logistical preparation, marketing, sales, and other trip planning and trip leader training.
Communicate with the SRWC Administration office through digital and personal interaction and collaboratively accommodates student clubs/organizations and off-campus affiliates to ensure their customer experience at the SRWC meets or exceeds expectations.
Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of the SRWC Rock and Outdoor Adventure Staff including Rock Wall Facilitators, Outdoor Shop Attendants, Trip Leaders, and a Rock and Outdoor Adventure Lead. Training of staff will include, but is not limited to, policy and procedures, wilderness-skill based training, and team building.
Assist in the planning and implementation of staff scheduling for regular operational hours, break coverage, and event programming.
Work cooperatively with other ASI graduate intern staff to plan and implement student programs and/or training sessions as needed.
Establish and maintain regular office hours. Periodic night and weekend work may be required.
Perform additional duties in support of the department.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required. Preference is given to candidates with a background in exercise science, physical education, sport studies, recreation management, or related field. Must be enrolled and making satisfactory progress at CSU Long Beach, pursuing a program on the master’s level in Kinesiology, Wellness Education Recreation Administration, Higher Education Administration or other related fields.
Knowledge and Abilities
Successful candidates will possess strong student development knowledge and the ability to connect well with students. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Willingness to research information and professional organizations. Exceptional customer skills are a must. Excellent interpersonal, written, time management and verbal communication skills. Must possess enhanced leadership skills, experience in outdoor recreation leadership, and be able to work in a diverse environment. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR/ First Aid required. Professional relationships with AORE, NIRSA, and AEE are preferred.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community; ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking skills, and analytical skill; ability to maintain professionalism and determine appropriate application of ASI and University policies or guidelines.
Concurrent enrollment in six or more graduate units at CSULB.
