University Title: Program Director of Fitness and Wellness
Basic Function/Purpose: The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness provides dynamic, hands-on leadership for Fitness and Wellness needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and the Fitness Center (FC). This position requires an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. A vital component of this position is a demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking, as well as a strong commitment to collaboration, student development, and customer service. Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide strategic planning and oversight for fitness and wellness programs and services that includes group fitness, personal training, nutrition coaching, premium instructional classes, customized fitness, and mental health programming.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and lead Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness, graduate assistant(s), and interns.
Based on Fitness and Wellness team’s strengths and interests, primary responsibilities will either be leadership of group fitness and premium instructional classes or personal training, nutrition coaching, and fitness floor.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and lead student and contract staff for primary areas of responsibility.
Provide oversight for CSI member management components including scheduler, program registration, reports, and series sales.
Coordinate facility lease agreements, waivers and contracts for national workshops/certifications.
Develop revenue and expense budgets and monitor monthly financial reports. Coordinate the review, purchase and maintenance of equipment, and the documentation of records/receipts.
Maintain and grow partnerships with university and non-university colleges, departments and groups.
Partner with Member Services to maximize member recruitment and retention efforts.
Maintain accurate participant and program data and compile usage reports.
Develop, evaluate, and revise policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure safe and effective environment, programming and services.
Work with marketing department to plan, design, and distribute marketing pieces, website updates, etc.
Direct and maintain excellent member and visitor services and relations.
Develop and implement customer satisfaction surveys and make recommendations for continual improvement.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with three (3) years experience; -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years experience; -OR- seven (7) years experience.
Fitness and wellness experience must include at least one (1) year of supervision.
Master's degree in health and fitness, physical education, recreation management, kinesiology/exercise science, health education/promotion or closely related field.
Certification from an accredited organization such as ACSM, ACE, AFAA, or NASM.
Two years of demonstrated success in fitness programming management, preferred in a collegiate setting.
Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service.
Excellent organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities. Administrative skills including strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
Analytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent and logical decisions.
