Job Summary/Basic Function
Assist with the overall administration of the Fitness operations. This includes recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, mentoring and evaluating student staff and programming; promotion and implementation of fitness and wellness services such as equipment orientations and maintenance, group fitness, personal training, new member screenings, fitness assessments, and exercise prescriptions. Will collaborate with various department staff and facility patrons to ensure a safe and clean environment, and elite experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist with the overall administration of the Fitness & Wellness program.
Attend and actively participate in all fitness related meetings, trainings, and strategic planning.
Assist with the development and implementation of guidelines, policies, procedures for Fitness Operations, including Group Fitness.
Research best fitness practices and make recommendations to enhance the quality of programs and services offered.
Recruit, schedule, supervise, mentor and evaluate all Fitness staff including certified group fitness instructors and personal trainers. This includes student and non-student instructors.
Assist with safety and risk management training for fitness staff.
Be a positive mentor and role model for all fitness staff.
Serve as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer as needed to provide balanced programs and services.
Regularly attend group fitness classes to provide constructive feedback and continual development of instructors.
Create an innovative marketing plan to increase awareness and participation for Fitness programs, classes and services. Assist with promotional and marketing materials for programs through flyers, social media and other outlets.
Facilitate ACE Personal Training Prep Course to interested GC students and WRC paying members.
Create and maintain participant contact database for future outreach to include wellness warriors, women on weights, spring break boot camp, and more.
Track participation numbers for group exercise classes, personal training services, fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions and wellness programs.
Monitor group fitness studio and fitness equipment for safety and cleanliness. Report issues in a timely manner. Complete all necessary forms.
Supervise regularly scheduled, thorough cleanings of all fitness equipment including the group fitness studio.
Compile and maintain all current fitness equipment inventory information.
Assist with fitness-related departmental Student Learning Outcomes.
Maintain flexible work schedule in order to coordinate and attend evening and weekend events to facilitate operations and respond to emergencies or problems. Ensure all aspects of events proceed smoothly and in accordance with plans.
Represent the Department of Wellness and Recreation at various college events to include Week of Welcome, Fall Fest, Family Day, Homecoming, Spring Fest, and more.
Maintain required certifications for position.
Respond to all communication in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field
Admission into Georgia College Human Performance Graduate Program
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Fitness Training
CPR/AED/First Aid certification
NCCA-accredited certification in personal training and group exercise (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NETA, AFAA).
Ability to excel in a dynamic and challenging atmosphere
Excellent leadership skills, oral/written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
2 years’ experience in campus recreation
At least 1 year of relevant work experience in personal training and/or group exercise
National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Membership

Tuition Waiver up to 9 credit hours per semester. Semester Stipend: $2,315 Term of Appointment: August 1, 2018 - May 2019 Required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
