This is a full-time position under the direct supervision of the Managing Director of Recreation Facilities. The Director of Facilities is responsible for the oversight of all recreational indoor/outdoor facilities. This includes but not limited to the Wilson Recreation Center, IM building, Brodie Recreation Center, outdoor tennis courts, outdoor recreation fields, and volleyball courts. The Director must be innovative with technology, fitness equipment and facility trends.
This role will include providing the community with exceptional recreation facilities and being a leader on campus in recreation, health, wellness and fitness education. The Director will promote and cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promotes student development and learning. This position is responsible for managing the Assistant Director of Facilities, part-time and contracted staff.
Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of all recreational indoor/outdoor facilities to include but not limited to Wilson Recreation Center, Brodie Recreation Center, Intramural Building, Aquatic facilities and outdoor recreation fields
Provide leadership to all special events and major facility reservations. This includes oversight of space allocation within established department priorities, coordinate department indoor/outdoor facility scheduling process
Serves as a liaison on West Campus to Housekeeping and the Facilities Management Department regarding maintenance and upkeep of recreational indoor/outdoor facilities
Coordinates the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of East and West Campus part-time employee staff and the Assistant Director of Facilities
Responsible for managing all facility aspects of Fusion
Serves as a liaison between Recreation and Physical Education, Duke Athletics, Student Affairs, and other off-campus groups for reservations and facility needs
Provide leadership and strategic planning in the purchasing and leasing of equipment
Facilitate regular in-service training for the Wilson and Brodie front desk and weight room part time staff
Serves on departmental, university, and/or national committees
Responsible for a variety of departmental efforts and initiatives with respect to student leadership training, campus outreach efforts, committee work, special events, and other duties as assigned
Provide leadership and strategic planning for facility risk management needs.
Responsible for routinely reviewing all Facility employees CPR, and First Aid certifications
Master’s degree from accredited institution in Recreation, Sports Administration, or related degree. Seven or more years of professional work experience in facilities or related field. Five or more years of full-time supervisory experience. Experience collaborating with campus partners to coordinate and organize special events for students, faculty, staff, and recreation center members. Evidence of strong leadership, mentoring, and staff development skills. Experience with assessment efforts and data analysis. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or be able to obtain within two months of employment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Ability to communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrate understanding and a strong commitment to customer service orientation. Knowledge of risk management planning. Ability to prepare financial reports, statistical reports, inventory control, and budget management. Shares the responsibility of the mission, strategic planning and goals for Recreation and Physical Education. Knowledge of the principles and practices governing the management of recreational facilities; knowledge of the principles and practices used in planning and equipping recreational facilities; knowledge of the principles, practices and theory of recreation administration; working knowledge of the OSHA regulations governing the operation of specific equipment used at recreational facilities. Ability to plan, organize, schedule and promote recreation activities and programs; ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
