Assistant Director of Fitness
Department: Campus Recreation
Reports to: Senior Assistant Director of Campus Recreation
Salary: Commensurate with Experience, Scale Point: 44, Min: $32,921
Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff including 15-20 Group Ex Instructors, and 6-10 Personal Trainers.
In preparation for the new facility, construct a staffing plan and comprehensive group exercise program schedule for three studios for Fall 2019
Manage the scheduling for all staff to ensure adequate staff coverage for all programs including group exercise classes, personal training appointments, on-site fitness workshops, and special events.
Develop and maintain an instructor driven mentorship/training program to educate new and existing student staff members.
Assess the program regularly to ensure it meets the needs of our members.
Provide leadership and mentorship, while creating a working environment that fosters growth and student development.
Create, manage, and supervise comprehensive fitness offerings.
Develop and implement a marketing promotion plan for fitness programs with assistance from the student marketing staff
Ensure ongoing quality and safety of programs and equipment, keeping up with industry best practices
Manage schedules, risk management inspections, equipment rotation, and scheduled replacement
Continue professional development by involvement in professional organizations, presenting at workshops and conferences, participating in regular continuing education
Assist other staff members with special events and programs as requested by the department
Bachelor's degree in related field
At least one year of progressive experience in the design, implementation, and administration of fitness programs
At least one year of supervisory experience
Group Fitness Instructor Certification through ACSM, ACE, or AFAA, OR, Certified Personal Trainer through ACSM, NASM, NSCA, or ACE
Upon Hire, completion of the Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification
Masters degree in related field
Practical experience and understanding of collegiate recreational fitness programs
Hold two or more certifications in group exercise formats: ZUMBA, SPIN, POUND, TRX, Yoga, etc.
Ability to work as a member of a team, and accomplish
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Flexible in the workplace and able to adapt to different situations and schedules
Passionate about working for and with a vibrant student community and is excited about the challenge to recruit and train students who will take ownership and help lead a student-centric fitness program.
Is an advocate for inclusion and demonstrate an appreciation for working and recruiting people of diverse backgrounds
Exude a positive attitude
