Plans and directs the overall operation of a major department (with institutional oversight) and provides leadership for staff members. Meets ORP eligibility requirements. Under executive direction, performs highly varied administrative duties involving the use of independent judgment and professional skills. Responsible for all employees assigned to area.
Provides leadership, management, and support for the Department of Recreational Sports. Must be able to create, design, and implement operational plans and strategies for a multifaceted department including Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Fitness/Wellness, Outdoor Pursuit Center, Informal Activities, Facilities, Aquatics and Marketing.
Administer and supervise the overall maintenance and capital improvements, as well as all projects for the department. This includes Student Recreation Center, Urbanovsky Park, Aquatic Center and Leisure Pool, Turf Complex with all associated fields (grounds maintenance experience), courts, and outdoor areas. Also, includes all development and implementation of facility policies and procedures for Recreational Sports.
Provide leadership and direction for a full-time staff of 29 personnel and over 600 student employees. This includes developing, short, and long-term goals, assessments, hiring, supervising and evaluating staff.
The Managing Director must develop and oversee a fee-for-service and self-generating operational budget of over $7 million, for a campus of 37,000 students. Financial and Capital management.
Collaborates with other departments on campus to ensure goals, objectives, and directives of the department and university are achieved. Ensures that the department is providing the best customer service possible to all students, staff, faculty, administration, and guests. Must be a team player and promote a team environment within and outside of the department.
Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred. Seven years progressively responsible management experience required. Education beyond bachelor's level may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Strong background in Recreational Sports leadership and management.
Current certification with American Red Cross, AED/CPR/First Aid Instructor.
Knowledgeable in personal development, Recreational Sports programming and facilities management.
Oversees the strategic planning for the department including annual strategic planning reports.
Attend and participate in regional and national conferences for continuing education within the recreational sports field.
Serve on university committees and assist and support campus initiatives such as recruiting efforts.
