The Recreation Services department is looking for a regular, full-time Recreation Coordinator, Events and Community Engagement. This position is responsible for the review, development, implementation and operation of events and activities for BCIT student, staff and public clients on all BCIT campuses. As a member of the Recreation Services team, the Recreation Coordinator, Events and Community Engagement supports the overall development, delivery, and evaluation of recreation programs, services, and events that foster active and healthy living, social connection, campus community engagement, and student learning, development, and success. This position is responsible for Recreation Facilities rentals and oversight of the Fitness Rooms on various BCIT campuses. This position works closely with all Recreation Coordinators on developing and marketing Recreation Services, supervising Recreation Services Assistants and student staff, and participating as an integral member of the Recreation Services team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Researches, develops, promotes, organizes, coordinates and evaluates recreation events and activities on various BCIT campuses to meet the needs of a diverse group of students, staff and public customers with varying levels of skills and fitness.
Works collaboratively with all campus communities, groups and departments to develop and operate programs and promote participation, engagement, education and support for healthy and active lifestyles.
Works collaboratively with the Sports Programs and Intramurals Coordinator in development, implementation, promotion and assessment of camp programs.
Leads the recruitment, selection and training of camp coaches and other camp program staff including volunteers. Provides input on performance evaluations of camp employees and contract staff. Works collaboratively with the Sports Programs and Intramurals Coordinator on these.
Ensures the various Fitness Rooms on the BCIT satellite campuses are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition at all times; conducting regular safety and maintenance inspections to ensure risk management and liability precautions are in place, and as an employee of the department ensures the safe operation of all recreation centre facilities and services. Liaises and coordinates with Fitness and Wellness Coordinator for equipment repairs and safety concerns.
Travels between BCIT campuses, and other Recreation Services or outside agencies, as required.
Provides back-up relief for other Recreation Coordinators during peak periods and absences and provides coverage for Recreation Services Assistants during breaks and absences as required.
Handles rental enquiries and customer relations; provides tours to potential rental customers; prepares costing and facility agreements.
Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

Diploma in marketing, communication, recreation and leisure, physical education, sport management, or related field.
Level I First Aid and CPR, or the willingness and ability to obtain certification.
Access to regular and reliable transportation on a regular basis to facilitate participation in events at all campuses.
Valid driver’s license.
Two years of general experience plus two years practical current experience in the recreation field, including experience in the development and delivery of recreational programs and events, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Microsoft Office knowledge with Excel at the intermediate level.
Experience working with recreation participant, team and activity registration, payment and information systems.
Proven knowledge and experience using the Internet and the ability to use it as a research, communications and promotional tool.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and with diverse groups.
Excellent conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated supervisory, training, team building and volunteer management skills.
Keyboarding skills at 40 wpm.
Independent, self-starter with excellent organizational and planning skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and handle multiple priorities in a busy and demanding environment.
Previous experience in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, the coordination of incident investigations, and related decision making and delivery of sanctions.
Previous experience in development and delivery of orientation and training modules.
Ability to recognize and act to resolve problems and exercise independent judgment and initiative appropriately.
Demonstrated knowledge of influences on active living and physical activity behaviour
Knowledge of student development and student engagement as it relates to fitness and well-being.
Proven initiative, creativity, and skills for the planning, development and implementation of events, community outreach, marketing, and social media.
Thorough understanding of risk management in the recreation setting.
Ability to work flexible hours and travel between the Institute’s campuses and off-site locations.
Ability to work shift work schedules.
Friday 7:00am to 3:00 pm
Saturday – Sunday 8:45am to 4:45pm
Monday-Tuesday 7:00am to 3:00 pm
(This position, Monday, Tuesday and Friday is an morning shift and Saturday and Sunday is a day shift, as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.)
START DATE: June 25, 2018. SALARY RANGE: Pay Grade 8; $50,455 with yearly increments to $54,849 per annum. COMPETITION NO.: 18B221 OPENING DATE: May 26, 2018. CLOSING DATE: June 4, 2018.
