Under the Division of Student Services, this part-time 9-month position reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation. The Outdoor Adventures Program Assistant will assist in the administration and daily operations of the Outdoor Adventures facilities as well as development of the student staff and programming.
The Recreation Department at Grand Valley State University provides quality and inclusive programming for a university of 25,000+ students, faculty and staff. The Outdoor Adventures program includes a climbing center, bike shop, rental equipment program, outdoor trips and educational workshops. For more information go to www.gvsu.edu/rec.
·Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of Outdoor Adventures student staff
·Supervise some evening and weekend hours of operation, events, and group activities
·Attend and lead occasional staff meetings and trainings of student staff
·Assist in the administration of programs and services including curriculum development, promotion, registration, scheduling, and day-of event management
·Provide assistance with other Campus Recreation department events like our annual RecFest
·Help administer and supervise special event/group rentals
·Assist in maintaining the Outdoor Adventures website and records
·Review and revise policies and procedures
·Attend department and division meetings
·Duties as assigned
·At least 1 year experience and success in the supervision of biking, climbing, or backpacking programs or staff
·Outdoor technical skills relevant to our programs
·Wilderness First Aid and Adult CPR w/ AED certification
Additional Salary Information: $1,500 per month stipend. No benefits
