Under the guidance of the Director of Student Health and Campus Wellness, the primary purpose of this position is to coordinate a comprehensive intramural program for students. This position will organize, supervise and evaluate all aspects of both the intramural and club sports programs for students.
THIS POSITION WORKS DURING THE EVENING HOURS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates significant and high-quality opportunities in a variety of indoor and outdoor intramural activities, including those for disabled students, to satisfy the diverse needs of students, including team and individual/dual sports activities, tournaments, leagues and fitness challenges for students.
Coordinates promote, advertises and schedules intramural games on and off campus.
Organizes, oversees, and evaluates all student Intramural Programs, and recommends equipment purchases and repairs;
Assists in the implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
Attends and oversees intramural games, referees as needed, and develops and implements team captain.
Facilitate leadership training, referee and officials clinics; meets regularly with team student captains and student referees.
Provide significant and high-quality opportunities in a variety of indoor and outdoor intramural activities to satisfy the diverse needs of residential students, faculty, and staff. This may include team and individual/dual sports activities/tournaments/leagues including fitness challenges for students and faculty/staff.
Coordinates with Wellness Center to maintain and improve the website for online registration of events, leagues, etc. to include:
Maintaining records and evaluations on participation and equipment inventory
Assures that all health and safety equipment, i.e., First Aid boxes are currently stocked with current equipment and first aid supplies and documents current status on daily log sheets.
Create and maintain an intramural manual of operations.
Maintain records relative to participation and equipment inventory.
Supervision, training, and evaluation of intramural student staff (i.e. supervisors, referees, office staff, etc.).
Conduct comprehensive official's clinics for student workers.
Education and/or Experience:
This position works in the evenings.
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Physical Education or related field and at least two years of work experience in a sports/recreation setting is required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in higher education coordinating intramural programs
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to prioritize effectively; must be able to interact with a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations. Must have knowledge of Health Department rules and regulations for athletic facilities, especially swimming pools. Ability to work under pressure and high level of attention to detail.
Must be able to read and interpret documents and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty and the general public. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) which includes typing memos, letters, and e-mails.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be certified in First Aid and CPR.
