The Cheer Coach directs all activities of the cheerleading program within NCAA, LSC, TAMUK, and TAMUS policies, guidelines, and procedures; is responsible for maintaining high academic standards to support the academic development and graduation of student-athletes while focused on student-athlete welfare; assisting in the recruitment of student-athletes and maintaining a culture of personal accountability in student-athlete academic performance and conduct; assisting in the planning and direction of practices, travel, and game activities; assisting, in preparing and managing the administrative functions of the cheerleading program; and assisting in community engagement and donor relations by promoting the cheerleading program within the priorities of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreational Sports. Reporting to the Director of Recreational Sports, the Cheer Coach, under general supervision, initiates and implements cheerleading fundraisers, cheer team recruitment, and tryouts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises cheerleading program by developing effective recruiting plan, safe training programs, fundraisers, cheer services, special events, and program evaluations.
Plans, develops, and schedules cheer program activities.
Develop a cheerleading program to include choreography, cheers, stunts, and gymnastics.
Plan, schedule, coordinate, and attend all try-outs for team: including recruitment, advertising, physical clearance and scheduling of space.
Maintain a calendar of practices and events including but not limited to the team’s presence and support of all home events for Football, Indoor Volleyball, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball.
Maintain and update rosters and emergency contact information of all team members.
Travel to some away games and may be required to drive campus/rental vehicles to venues.
Maintaining knowledge of, and uphold, UCA, NCAA, LSC, TAMUK, TAMU System and overall Cheerleading rules and regulations such as safety, certification, etc.
Prepare the team for on-campus and school related engagements including but not limited to Homecoming, Spirit Performance, Pep rallies, and requested events.
Adheres to policies and procedures regarding budget, fundraising, deposits, travel, and inventory.
Assists in the management and supervision of the fitness program and activities, facilities, personnel, reports, and equipment.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of department and University policies regarding student employees and student organizations.
Assist with the preparation, organization, design, and implementation of effective practice plans, off-season programs, scouting reports and recruiting system.
Effective and timely preparation and management of administrative functions related to the football program.
Effective community engagement, donor, and public relations.
Consistent compliance with NCAA II, Lone Star Conference, and TAMUK policies, rules, and regulations
Assists in program and facility risk management and maintains high level of concern for safety in cheerleading activities and department fitness programs, and adheres to protocols regarding emergencies and critical incidents.
Provides coherent customer service.
Provides reports and maintains accurate records on all student-athletes
Maintains communication with administrators, coaches, and student-athletes
Develops an annual operating budget and oversee the purchasing, distribution and collection of all equipment.
Works closely with the Director of Rec. Sport on long and short-term planning for the cheerleading program.

Education – Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – One year of related experience.
Knowledge of – Excellent communication, organizational, teaching, public relationship, interpersonal, customer service, and supervisory skills.
Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a high stress environment. Ability to work independently once a project is given.
Licensing / Professional Certification– Certified in Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Cheerleading Safety, First Aid, and CPR. Valid driver’s license.
