The Department of Campus Recreation oversees two indoor recreation facilities, the Mackal-Tootell Complex and the Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center. The Mackal-Tootell Complex is a 275,000 square foot facility that operates as a shared space for academics, athletics, ROTC, and recreation. It features an indoor track, basketball courts, Cardio Center and Weight Room, classroom space, multipurpose gym, group exercise studio, and pool complex. The Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center opened in 2013 and is a 33,000 square foot facility with cardio and strength equipment, three group exercise studios, a classroom, and a wellness resource center. Facility Operations oversees over 50 student and part time staff and manages the Member Services desks in both locations.
This is graduate-level work participating in the promotion of programs and services offered by the Department of Campus Recreation at the University of Rhode Island.
A student in this position is responsible for analyzing and compiling department marketing data; developing marketing/promotional programs, brochures, social media campaigns and other advertising media; performing marketing profiles.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Membership and Marketing Coordinator.
Assist the Coordinator of Marketing & Memberships in the coordination and implementation of marketing strategies for the department programs, services, and facilities.
Participates in the independent planning, development, and implementation of marketing strategies.
Develops marketing/promotional programs, brochures, social media campaigns and other advertising media.
Assist with the recruitment and supervision of graphic design student(s) to design and maintain all departmental media outlets and publications.
Assist with oversight and administration of the Campus Recreation social media accounts; to include Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Assist with the organization and maintenance of a departmental photo library.
Collaborate with the graphic design student(s) to produce appropriate publications in a variety of media
Oversee the department’s digital signage and proof reading all printed material prior to being published.
Work Special events as assigned throughout the year.
Track and access Marketing efforts.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Assist full-time staff in presentation of various in-service programs.
Ability to work schedule as defined.
Performs related duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Business or Communications degree preferred
Minimum of one year experience in campus recreation programs or marketing/communications.
Proficient computer skills; previous use of Adobe products – Photoshop, In-design, Illustrator, etc.
Must have team-oriented ideals, a willingness to work hard and a desire to learn.
Willing to obtain and maintain C.P.R., A.E.D. and First-Aid certifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to having outstanding customer service skills, and are highly motivated, show enthusiasm and pays attention to details
Ability to work independently
Aspirations toward a career in campus recreation, marketing, communications or business is preferred.
Strong ability to organize and coordinate simultaneous projects.
Demonstrated ability to edit copy for publications, and other marketing materials.
Well-spoken and detail oriented team-player.
Experience in developing effective promotional materials for target audiences.
Ability to communicate persuasively and tactfully with all levels of management, co-workers, and customers.
Proficient with Adobe desktop publishing software and other media appropriate for producing brochures, ads, flyers, videos, etc. (Adobe Suites: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PremierPro, etc.)
Demonstrated proficiency with social media management, graphic design, and web publishing.
A strong desire to learn and grow as a professional.
Broad knowledge and experience with photography is a plus!
