NC State University is seeking an energetic and innovative leader for the position of Associate Director, Wellness and Recreation. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working as part of a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to create world-class wellness and recreation programs, services, and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom. This position reports to the Executive Director of Wellness and Recreation.
The Associate Director will provide visionary leadership and manage Wellness and Recreation development, sponsorships, marketing partnerships, assessment and evaluation, technology services, member services, professional and student staff training and development, sports programs (club sports and intramural sports), and outdoor adventures. The candidate will lead department entrepreneurial efforts to identify and develop alternate revenue streams that add value to the student and member experience and ensure financial sustainability of the unit.
Specific responsibilities include:
Train and supervise three full-time professional staff including Assistant Director of Training, Development and External Relations, Assistant Director of Sports Programs, Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures; indirectly supervise six full-time professional staff and approximately 275 student staff and ensure staff provide the highest level of customer service.
In partnership with the Division of Academic and Student Affairs Development Office, provide the leadership, strategic direction, management, and coordination for all development efforts for Wellness and Recreation. Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle, and lead strategies to identify, qualify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize and steward all donors and prospects.
Serve as member of the Wellness and Recreation executive team and assist the Executive Director in department strategic planning, goal-setting and evaluation.
Provide leadership for Wellness and Recreation professional and student staff training and development program that includes recruitment, hiring, orientation/on-boarding and on-going training and student development. UREC employs approximately 750 student staff throughout the year.
Develop a strong strategic assessment plan for Wellness and Recreation. Implement plans to assess and evaluate all learning outcomes for participants, student staff, and facility-related outcomes that have been developed for the department.
Develop and administer budgets for member services, club sports, intramural sports and outdoor adventures. Responsible for developing and executing strategic plan to increase revenues in all program areas.
Provide leadership for department information technology services. Serve as liaison to Division of Academic and Student Affairs Technology Services.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions. Other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, recreation, or other related field from an accredited institution.
At least four years of progressively responsible professional experience in collegiate recreation.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION
Experience leading teams and managing professional staff.
Demonstrated success in securing gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations in higher education.
Knowledge of history and culture of NC State University.
