The Outdoor Recreation Director is responsible for operations, risk management, budget allocation, program development and implementation of the outdoor recreation experiential education programs. These education programs develop leadership and healthy lifestyle skills to the Carolina community. This position will also support the University’s mission and goals through participating in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate, for prospective and current students.
The primary responsibilities of the outdoor recreation director include:
Direct operations of the outdoor recreation education programs to include climbing wall, rental shop, adventure trips, bike shop, challenge course and paddle sports
Supervise one full time staff member
Develop and manage program budget
Identity areas for program enhancement, set goals and objectives and implement initiatives for program explanation

Degree in recreation management and/or outdoor education preferred. Climbing Wall Instructor and Challenge Course Facilitator certifications are highly desired.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in Student Services or related field and 4 years related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience.
Current First Aid, CPR / AED, and Wilderness First Responder certifications required. Requires a variable work schedule which may include early morning or evening hours, as well as weekends and holidays and the ability to attend on and off campus events.
