The Outdoor Adventure Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Fitness and Recreation and has primary responsibility for the daily management of the Outdoor Adventure Program including the climbing wall, day trips, clinics, and equipment rental center. In addition, the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator supervises, trains, evaluates student staff.
Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of outdoor adventure staff.
Develop, market and oversee all adventure day trip activities.
Maintain, inventory and monitor rental center and climbing wall equipment.
Supervise the climbing wall staff and events for the program.
Organize and develop introductory outdoor activity classes teaching lifetime activity skills.
Plan and lead pre-trip meetings providing information and safety guidelines.
Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
Provide post-trip assessment and follow up paperwork including participant survey results.
Monitor and report any equipment in need of repair and/or any environmental concerns.
Provide first aid/health care if necessary on day trips.
Facilitate group dynamics and effective communication for a safe and positive group experience.
Provides reporting to Associate Director concerning program participation, usage numbers, concerns, facility maintenance, budgetary information, assessments, and other information as necessary.
Maintains and updates a policies and procedures manual for the Outdoor Adventure Program.
Establishes safety policies and procedures for employees under charge.
Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.
The Outdoor Adventure Program at TWU is in it's 8th year and has been a catalyst in encouraging students, faculty and staff to get active in the outdoors through trips, clinics, special events, adventure travel and climbing wall programming. This programs aligns with the university's strategic plan by providing programs and events that encourage Health & Well-being.
A bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Outdoor Adventure, Outdoor Education, Sport Administration or related field. Wilderness First Responder and CPR/First Aid is required. Indoor/outdoor climbing wall certification preferred. Must be able to obtain preferred certifications within six months of hire.
Two years’ experience working in an Outdoor Adventure setting organizing and leading trips is preferred. Experience in a university setting is preferred.

Texas Woman’s University Fitness and Recreation provides fitness and recreational opportunities to the TWU students, faculty and staff on it's three campuses in Denton, Dallas, and Houston. In 2011, TWU Fitness and Recreation opened a new state of the art Fitness and Recreation Facility. The new center includes a climbing wall, an NCAA regulation basketball court, 2 NCAA regulation volleyball courts, 3 group exercise studios, men's and women's locker rooms, an outdoor adventure center, and a multi-purpose gameroom/lobby area. In addition to the new facility, the department also oversees 8 tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, an intramural field, and provides indoor pool programming.
