Safety and Risk Management
Supervising part-time Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers.
Hire, train, develop, supervise, and evaluate a high functioning team of Personal Trainers and Group Exercise Instructors.
Responsible for successful attainment of daily/weekly/monthly/annual department targets, including revenue, expense, retention, and engagement.
Create, manage, and evaluate the schedules for Group Exercise, Personal Training, and other fitness programming within the facility.
Ensures that team members, program offerings, and general facility offerings are delivering on key factors relating to customer service, quality, and engagement.
Regularly meet with staff to review performance, set goals, and provide motivation and guidance.
Research industry trends and assess new and current programming.
Conduct regular staff trainings/in-services.
Assist the Director of Fitness & Aquatics, as needed, with development and implementation of the fitness and wellness programming available to students, faculty/staff, and community members.
Develops a collaborative relationship with other departments across campus and works to meet the goals of the Chancellor’s Strategic Initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and participation statistics.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Ability to work with the public with tact and judgment.
Excellent organizational skills required.
Must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment.
In depth knowledge of Personal Training/Group Exercise techniques.
Strong interpersonal & communication skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate a friendly, approachable, & enthusiastic attitude.
Ability to operate and adjust all fitness equipment.
1-2 years of customer service experience
Conflict resolution skills
Accredited Personal Training Certification and/or Group Fitness Instructor Certification
Demonstrated experience with program development and financial management
Previous supervisory experience

Ability to work a flexible schedule
Possession of the following certifications, or willingness to receive them upon hire:
Blood Bourne Pathogen
Master’s degree in health, sports, recreation related field
2+ years of fitness management experience
2+ years of personal training, group fitness experience
Knowledge of student development and the ability to promote fitness programs to a campus population.
