Associate Director, Fitness

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the administration and operation of the fitness and wellness program
Develops and implements special events/programs, including scheduling and training special event staff, and coordinating all facility reservations for fitness and wellness events
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel
Develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive risk management plan
Provides administrative oversight and recommendations on all equipment purchasing, inventory, and maintenance for fitness and wellness program
Administers and supervises all aspects of the fitness and wellness program
Develops short and long-range goals for the department’s fitness and wellness programs and/or operations
Develops procedures for documenting and cataloging all fitness and wellness departmental business processes/assessments, as appropriate
Develops, implements, and monitors budgets and makes budgetary recommendations for the fitness and wellness program.
Responsible for maintaining current certification(s)/licensure(s) required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s).
Supervises full- and part-time personnel.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field.
Eight years or more experience in administrative, managerial, and/ or supervisory position (i.e., teaching, supervising, evaluating fitness and wellness programs; instructing aerobic activities; teaching, promoting a healthy lifestyle through Health Education, Physical Fitness, Strength and Conditioning, etc.)
Additional relevant education may replace experience requirement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong computer knowledge.
Must possess effective leadership, time management, and customer service skills
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with the general public and the students served.
Ability to plan, organize, assess, and perform tasks accurately and independently.
Ability to make effective presentations to students, Rec Sports members and TAMIU community.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within first year of employment.
Ability to obtain Personal Training Certification and Group Fitness Instructor Certification by a nationally recognized organization within first year of employment (i.e., Aerobics Association of America, AFAA, ACE, etc.)
Position requires occasional travel locally, throughout Texas, and nationally.
Position requires evening and/or weekend hours as necessary.
