The Assistant Director of Competitive Sports assists with the management of sport clubs activities and intramural sports leagues and events. In a typical year, approximately 8,000 University of Minnesota students participate in these program offerings (approximately 1,200 participants in sport clubs, and approximately 6,800 participants in intramural sports). This position works closely with the Competitive Sports professional and student staff to ensure that operations run smoothly while also having a strong commitment to the University’s goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate by advancing equity and diversity. The responsibilities of this position occasionally require attendance at evening and weekend activities, games, and events. This position reports to the Director of Competitive Sports.
The salary for this position is $45,000. The application deadline is August 26, 2018.
Programming Intramural Sports Leagues and Events 25%
Planning, developing, scheduling, and facilitating registration for leagues, tournaments, clinics, and special events.Each year, approximately 6,800 students form 1,300 teams which play 3,200 games in 200 leagues in 20 sports.
Overseeing Financial Operations of Clubs 40%
Guiding the development and overseeing the management of each club’s operating budget (25 sport clubs/25 operating budgets)
Overseeing and approving daily club income and expense transactions and meeting monthly with representatives from each club to discuss finances and planning.
Managing a shadow system of the University Financial System to ensure all club accounts are accurate and to provide clubs with current financial balances
Reconciling accounts with the University Financial system
Working with the department accounting staff to process all financial paperwork
Overseeing Club Travel 15%
Managing all components of sport clubs travel including two Departmental vehicles, vehicles rented from University Fleet Services or outside rental agencies, and personal vehicles.
Supervising external bid process and managing contracts for travel/transportation
Developing and updating all travel/vehicle policies and procedures.
Supervising Travel Assistant who collects and manages all required travel paperwork, ensures all drivers are eligible according to program standards, and clears clubs to travel.
Working closely with Fleet Services staff to ensure vehicles are inspected and up to date with regular maintenance
Validating and reconciling all van rental payments.
Assisting with Management of Other Departmental Programming 15%
Serving the department by assisting in program development and project management.
University and Professional Service 5%
Serving on Department and University committees as assigned. Attending meetings and workshops.
Maintaining membership in professional associations, serving on professional committees, and attending professional conferences.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Competitive Sports.
BA/BS plus at least four (4) years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight (8) years
Experience in intramural and/or sport club programming
Experience in administration of IMLeagues accounts
Experience fostering an inclusive environment and appreciative of differences in the workplace
Experience supervising student employees or other part-time staff
