Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for the execution and administration of a comprehensive Competitive & Recreational Sports, Outdoor Adventures and Summer Activities programs. The position will assist with strategic and budget planning and is responsible for completing assessment and program plans. Additionally the position is responsible for the supervision, and evaluation of the department’s full time and temporary staff related to programming areas. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:Supervise the development, coordination, execution and evaluation of the overall comprehensive operation of Competitive & Recreational Sports programs, services and facilities which includes intramural sports, sport clubs and special events.Supervise the development, coordination, execution and evaluation of the overall comprehensive operation of an Outdoor Adventure program, including outdoor educational curriculum and course offerings, experiential trip offerings; land and water based, operation of a rental and resource center, and Challenge Course programs.Provide direction, supervision and support for the operations of Summer Activities which include youth camps, adult sports and outdoor activities.Responsible for the development, revision and evaluation of established mission and value statements, goals and objectives for each program and service.Creating a learning environment while developing a dynamic team of professional, support staff and student staff through leadership, goal setting, empowerment, development and evaluation, with an emphasis on customer service.Monitor and evaluate budget planning and projections for the Competitive and Recreational Sports, Outdoor Adventure, and Summer Activities accounts.Assist in the development and revision of policies and procedures and provide guidance and consistency concerning the implementation of training manuals, and plans designed to foster professional development and transferable career skills for Sports, Outdoors and Summer Activity programs that align with the department’s recognized best practices.Assist with the development and administration of a Risk Management program which minimizes the risk associated with participation with programs, services or use of facilities.Work directly with other Assistant Directors to coordinate departmental and university events. This includes weekly meetings, pre-event planning, equipment acquisition, risk management, event staffing, and post-event evaluation & follow-up. Additionally, this includes building relationships with clients and customers outside of Campus Recreation to promote long-term success.Assist with the coordination of contractual agreements for facilities, equipment, programs and services.Collaborate with departmental team to initiate, execute and evaluate signature events and creative programming.Assist with selection, implementation and evaluation of corporate sponsored programs and events.Assist the Director in the development of departmental administrative and financial reports and summaries to include peer reviews and benchmark research.Serve on Senior Leadership Team within the department to identify, develop, and implement assessment initiatives and goal setting as well as assisting the Director with strategic planning in these areas. Collaborate campus wide to bring creative, engaging programs and services to the student, faculty, and staff community; Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Center for International Education, Residence Life, and Student Life.Participate in various organizations through committee work at the university, Flagstaff community and in professional organizations at the state, regional or national levels.Serves as point of contact in the absence of Senior Administrators of the department.Support national recreation and sporting trends as identified by department, with the intent of remaining a leader among peer institutions.Other duties as assigned to support the department and division to enhance student, member and guest services.
Master’s degree in Sport or Recreation Management, Athletic Administration, Health Education/Promotion, or related field AND Minimum of 4 years of related experience in higher education with at least three years supervisory experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.Certified American Red Cross CPR/FA. Current or willingness to obtain within first 3 months.Preferred Qualifications:Experience managing multiple budgets and capital projects.Experience developing and leading risk management plans.Experience with strategic planning; setting dept. goals and leading assessment initiatives.Experience in hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating professional and student staff.Experience using event/program management applications, including Event Management System (EMS), InnoSoft Fusion Suite, Connect2Concepts, Do Sports Easy, IMLeagues, OnGuard/Lenel. Certified Instructor American Red Cross CPR/FANIRSA-CRSS certification.
Additional Salary Information: The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
