South Dakota State University is seeking an energetic individual for the position of Outdoor Program Coordinator. SDSU is expanding its recreational abilities through a 37,500 sq ft expansion of the recreational facility and the addition of an Outdoor Program Center opening in October 2018. This is a full time, 12-month, benefit-eligible position reporting to the Assistant Director of the Wellness Center.

The Outdoor Program Coordinator will administer a comprehensive outdoor adventure trip series, skills clinics, outdoor gear rental center, and climbing wall program within the Wellness Center. Outdoor programming will focus on student learning, leadership development, team-building, and experiential education.
Creating and overseeing comprehensive adventure trips program;
Creating and overseeing comprehensive skills clinic program;
Oversight and inventory management of a comprehensive outdoor gear rentals program;
Design, implement, and maintain programmatic budget in regards to payroll, equipment purchasing, and operational expenses;
Oversee Wellness Center Climbing Wall;
Create and implement climbing programs including kid’s climbing programs and the annual Octboulderfest Climbing Competition;
Hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff;
Risk Management and safety;
Work with university organizations to develop custom programming for student groups.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, or a related field by date of application;
Minimum two years of experience leading outdoor recreation activities including but not limited to: biking, camping, hiking, paddling, backpacking, rock climbing, and others;
Minimum one year of experience assisting in the management of outdoor gear rentals, climbing wall, or related field;
Demonstrated experience supervising college students;
Wilderness First Responder Certified (SOLO, NOLS, WMA, etc.);
Effective written communication skills;
Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated ability in a variety of outdoor activities including but not limited to: biking, camping, hiking, paddling, backpacking, rock climbing, and others;
Ability to work nights and weekends;
Valid Driver’s license (Class C Required).
Master’s Degree in Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation, Higher Education Administration, or a related field;
Additional Salary Information: Contingent upon education and experience. Moving expenses paid for up to one month's salary.
