The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn State is seeking a Coordinator of Campus Recreation for Competitive Sports to join our dynamic team. The Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development, delivery, leadership and management of all recreational programmatic aspects for Club Sports and Intramural Sports on campus. This position reports to the Senior Assistant Director, Competitive Sports and provides direct and/or indirect supervision of the following student staff positions: student managers, supervisors, program assistants and sports officials.
Job responsibilities include:
Assisting in the management of a comprehensive schedule of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming on a daily basis
Assisting in the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating of student employees
Development of training material for Club Sports Officers
Providing guidance and direction to Club Sports Officers
Creation and implementation of Intramural Sports Special Event Tournaments
Overseeing daily operations of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming
Direct and indirect supervision of 150 student employees
The Coordinator must have an understanding of departmental goals, vision and direction and be able to communicate this information with student staff.

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in educational administration, recreation or sport management, physical education, or a related field plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience managing collegiate or municipal recreational programming with demonstrated experience in sport programming, event management, staff supervision and management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices as they relate to sport programs and environments in indoor and outdoor areas required. Leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate and evaluate student staff members relative to work performance and peer relationships as demonstrated through past supervision of students and staff.
This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Assistant Director, Competitive Sports as appropriate. Knowledge of student development principles and ability to provide leadership and development opportunities for the general student body and student employees. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and hold student staff accountable. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts and within the Division of Student Affairs. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of student employees and participants is essential.
