Responsibilities: The Director, Recreation and Wellness will provide leadership, vision, and strategic goal setting that contribute to diverse, innovative, inclusive, educational, and safe programs and facilities.
Programs and services include but are not limited to: aquatics and safety certifications, climbing, club sports, group fitness, personal training, intramural sports, informal recreation, nutrition, team challenge, summer youth camp, wellness, massage, membership services, and reservations/rentals.
Facilities include an award winning recreation center totaling more than 430,000 sq. ft., an indoor turf facility, 2 field complexes totaling 35 acres each, and numerous other outdoor facilities.
Responsibilities include the overall vision, planning and assessment, management, and operation of a comprehensive university recreation & wellness department that includes a diverse offering of programs, services, and facilities. The director is expected to provide leadership to a staff of more than 75 (28 professional, 7 clerical, 37 service, 6 graduate assistants) as well as more than 800 student employees. Responsible for fiscal planning and oversight that includes budget management, reserves and capital planning.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Students, the director is an integral member of the Student Life leadership team and plays an important role in advancing the vision and values of Student Life.
Master’s degree in higher education, recreation management, or related field.
Seven years of progressive management and supervisory experience in a comprehensive recreation program.
Ability to serve as a strong leader, offering long-term vision and strategic planning that will contribute to the development and enhancement of a comprehensive university recreation & wellness department.
Experience in leading, mentoring and developing a staff team. Knowledge of current trends and issues within university recreation & wellness and student life areas.
Experience in fiscal planning and management. Knowledge in student learning, assessment, campus recreation & wellness best practices and risk management.
Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service minded, visionary, and committed to student success.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A valid US or Canadian driver's license.
