The Building & Special Events Manager will be responsible for providing leadership level oversight for staff development, fiscal responsibility, risk management, and special project management for the Rockne Memorial Building. The individual will supervise, evaluate, and train professional and student personnel with a strong focus on coaching and mentoring students. This position will research, analyze, and recommend policies and procedures, provide guidance, assign responsibilities, and establish goals/priorities for both the Aquatics Program and Facility Operations. The position will also work with student groups and departments to plan and hold events that enhance the mission, vision, and values of RecSports, the Division of Student Affairs, and that meet University guidelines and risk management/safety protocols.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, evaluate, and mentor the following professional staff: Aquatics Program and Risk Management Coordinator, Aquatics Maintenance Technicians (2), Full Time Front Desk Attendant
Recruit, hire, on board, train, supervise, mentor, and facilitate professional development for approximately 20+ student employees.
Implement annual employee performance reviews, including conducting and reviewing evaluations, identifying patterns, recommending merit raises, and suggesting changes to improve employment process and/or work productivity.
Collaborate with the Assistant Director on student supervisor and manager promotions.
Determine employee schedules, monitor schedules for accuracy and adequate supervision, adjust scheduling process based on area needs and budget, and oversee time edit processing and bi-weekly payroll approval.
Monitor student employee safety certifications for compliance with stated requirements in each job description.
Determine components and processes for student employee mentoring and recognition program(s), including implementing, evaluating, and making decisions on modifications to improve employee performance and retention.
Serve as a mentor and role model to student staff in relation to performance expectations, professional development, and student staff development/leadership.
Oversee daily operations
Manage the reservation and access software for facility operations (Innosoft Fusion & EMS & W2W)
Manage chemical and supply inventory for programs and services housed in Rockne
Responsible for equipment checkout for informal and outdoor recreation
Perform other risk management responsibilities as assigned.
Collaborate with student orgs for special event reservation requests for Rockne Memorial Gymnasium
Serve as the main point of contact for equipment and logistical options for road races held on campus
RecSports Domer Run Committee (Various Roles)
Assist in the completion of University Special Events (i.e DomerFest, Alumni Reunion, Commencement)
Procurement of supplies
Collection of all building assessment data (usage statistics, temperature data, operation hours)
Review of building policies
Submit Maintenance Requests and Work Orders (AiM)
Enforce safety procedures
Additional Responsibilities & Duties
Submit facility requests to facility scheduler within established time-lines, policies, and procedures.
Submit marketing requests to Assistant Director of Administration within established time-lines, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrate active engagement with and support of the department mission, vision, and values.
Demonstrate and support the mission of the University and Division of Student Affairs.
Serve on departmental committees and work groups.
Develop and review facility policies for all RecSports facilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required with a major in recreation administration, sport management, leisure studies, physical education, kinesiology, or comparable degree
Proven history of leadership development, customer service, team building, and decision-making skills
Three years of work experience in a Campus Recreation program in higher education
One to two years of experience managing/supervising/developing professional employees
Experience developing and leading educational sessions
Experience and a strong background in facility supervision/management
Master’s Degree in appropriate field or 5 years of relevant experience
Possess a current CPO/AFO certification
Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid Instructor certification
Completed a two-year graduate assistantship in facilities and/or operations/special events
Direct personnel management experience of professional staff
Experience with facility access & scheduling software (e.g. Fusion, WhentoWork)
Experience with budget development and management
Familiar with basic safety procedures and understands Risk Management initiatives
