NKU Campus Recreation is seeking qualified applicants for internships in the areas of Fitness and Intramural Sports. These positions were created to assist with program management and provide leadership opportunities. These are 10-month positions beginning July 2019 - May 2020.
The successful candidates will be paid bi-weekly for up to 19 hours per week (with the exception of university holidays and closures) at a rate commensurate with experience.
NKU Campus Recreation will host an Info Session at the 2019 NIRSA Annual Conference on Sunday, February 17 at 3pm in Room 303.
Fitness Internship Responsibilities:
Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating a Fitness staff of 25 + instructors, fitness assistants, and Personal Trainers.
Conduct 2 in-service trainings a semester for all staff.
Complete payroll procedures accurately for 25+ student and contract employees following university and departmental guidelines.
Assist in the planning and running of the Group Fitness instructor training and development program (GFIT) each semester.
Plan, administer and promote a Fall & Spring Fitness class schedule of 30 + classes per week (pending facility availability) that includes a variety of classes for individuals of all fitness levels. Program for 5-10 classes per week during the summer and holiday breaks. Program offerings should include cardio and mind body classes.
Collect and review Personal Training client information. Assign clients to trainers as needed.
Conduct personal training sessions if necessary.
Track client/trainer sessions. Review program charts and keep financial records for sessions.
Responsible for monitoring program budgets, operating expenses and revenues. Monitor operating expenses and labor costs on departmental budget tracking logs.
Regular maintenance, inspection, and upkeep of Fitness equipment in studios.
Create, update and enforce policies and procedures related to the Fitness programs.
Track and record participation numbers for all programs/areas. Manage participant waiver system.
Intramural Sports Internship Responsibilities:
Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate a comprehensive Intramural Sports Program to include team, dual and individual sports leagues, tournaments, and special events.
Provide onsite supervision for Intramural Activities, particularly major team sports (basketball, soccer and football).
Manage IMLeagues web based scheduling and participant registration program for Intramurals.
Assist with developing and implementing marketing plan for Intramural Programming.
Coordinate hiring, scheduling and ongoing training and development of student employees working in Intramural Sports area.
Process payroll for Intramural Sports program accurately and within established timelines on departmental financial logs.
Maintain program equipment and accurately track inventory.
Update Intramural policies, procedures and rules.
Prepare and lead captain’s meetings for team sports.
Main contact for Intramural Greek Chairs, team captains and participants.
Enforce policies and procedures relating to Intramural and Club Sport Programs.
Track team payments through spreadsheets and communication to teams
Assist with CPR trainings for all Campus Rec Staff. In consultation with other staff members, establish an annual calendar of classes to meet departmental needs.
Fitness Internship Requirements:
Must have 2 years of experience working in collegiate recreation.
Must have experience teaching group fitness/personal training and training instructors/trainers.
Preference given to applicants with a national fitness certification
Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree.
Intramural Sports Internship Requirements:
Must have 2 years of experience working in collegiate recreation
Must have experience in officiating and official’s training
Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree
