The function and purpose is to oversee responsibilities encompassing a wide variety of administrative, supervisory, and programming duties in the areas of Sport (Intramural & Club) & Camp programs. These programs provide students, faculty, and staff, with an opportunity for recreational, instructional, intramural, and competitive sports. With a variety of team leagues & tournaments, 25+ active Sport Club teams, and a youth Summer Camp program, this position will provide support and facilitate the overall success of the programs to included day-to-day operations and long-term objectives.
25% Intramural & Field Operations:
Create and implement annual intramural calendar to coordinate/administer registration process; Oversee daily management of the outdoor field complex including rental programs and parking; Actively recruit under represented and special population individuals for program participation; Work collaboratively with Residential Life, Greek Affairs, and other student life units on programming needs; Participate in planning and development of regional/national extramural events and tournaments; Determine and recommend the purchase of needed equipment and supplies; Coordinate, establish, and recommend for approval all fees pertaining to program participation; Prepare, submit for approval, and monitor a sound fiscal operational budget; Coordinate with Associate Director(s) on risk management plans; Oversee the enforcement of administrative and operational policies and procedures; Implement technology resources to support program needs and requirements.
25% Sport Club & Camp Operations:
Serve as Sport Clubs liaison, manage Sport Club calendar and distribute master schedule; Oversee budget management and sport club budget allocations; Provide leadership and support for comprehensive camp program; Advise and assist with the implementation of camp structure and curriculum; Assist with club disciplinary process and the development and implementation of Sport Club officer trainings, leadership meetings, and coach/instructor orientations.
30% Personnel Supervision & Leadership:
Direct supervision of two coordinators (Intramural Sports and Sport Club/Camp Program); Coordinate and oversee the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation process for Sport and Camp Program student staff; Implement and facilitate methods/programs to enhance the student employee experience; Assist with the training of student leaders, coaches, faculty advisors and others associated with Sport Programs.
20% Professional Engagement:
Give feedback on departmental programs, equipment, and operations by engaging daily in programs and using equipment/facilities; -Immediately report safety concerns to the functional area supervisor; Represent UREC on various University/community functions, committee work as assigned; Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the departments culture of teamwork; Be active professionally through presentations, speaking engagements,& involvement in professional associations; Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success; Maintains positive co-worker relationships and fosters an environment of trust and inclusion; Provide coverage during evenings, weekends and special events as assigned by department need.
Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience working in a sport/recreational environment with particular emphasis in university recreation along with previous supervision of staff.
Master's degree in Sport Management, Leisure Studies, Recreation, or a related field with 5 years of relevant work experience in intramurals, sport clubs, and summer camps.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
The ability to work flexible hours.
