The Recreation Facilities & Programs Assistant Director leads a devoted team, managing the department’s recreation facilities including the 146,000 sq. ft. Monon Community Center, 3.5-acre destination Waterpark, programming pavilions, 2-acre Dog Park and splash pads throughout Carmel. With a $6 million+ operating budget and 17 full-time staff, this position directly manages the big picture operations of these facilities, as well as the department’s 3,500 annual recreation program offerings focused on nature and environmental education, fundamental skills building, fitness and health, and inclusion.
As a part of the Recreation Facilities & Programs leadership team, this position contributes to overall operations, logistics and staff morale of the entire division through planning, idea sharing and thinking to achieve department goals.

What You’ll Be Doing
Leadership. Engage with your team of 17 full-time employees by assisting with the execution of the entire employee lifecycle. Provide staff the training and opportunity for development for the betterment of the organization and self. Evaluate staff and their performance to guide them toward success.
Fiscal Sustainability. Manage expenditures and revenues to meet mandated cost recovery. Assist with creation and execution of division-wide annual operating budget, along with capital improvement and capital replacement proposals.
Engage. Communicate regularly with both guests and staff. Be a supporter of and the backbone to your team and get them excited about their roles and how they impact the Carmel/Clay community. Answer, relay and respond to both internal and external inquiries.
Collaborate. As part of the Recreation Facilities & Programs leadership team, you will work as one team and put your heads together to focus on the big picture. Be a visionary, innovator and contribute to department-wide strategies through research, knowledge and awareness of applicable laws and regulations, budgeting, and more.
Analyze + Recommend. Regularly dissect the Recreation Facilities & Programs division and its performance. Collect data, document and provide recommendations to all levels of staff with the intent of better solutions and service.

The Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, business administration, hospitality management or a related field.
Five (5) year’s operations and supervisory experience.
Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

You have experience with CAPRA Accreditation Standards.
You have your CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional).
