The Fitness Program Supervisor is responsible for developing compelling fitness and wellness programs that provide health benefits for the Carmel/Clay community. They lead a motivated fitness staff dedicated to achieving the highest customer health and satisfaction. This position directly manages Group Fitness classes and Personal Training clients at the 146,000 sq. ft. Monon Community Center serving over 100,000 participants each year.

What You’ll Be Doing
Lead + Train. Engage with your team of 50 part-time employees regularly. Manage the hiring process, scheduling, training, day-to-day management and troubleshooting problems. Develop a comprehensive plan to set staff up for success. Evaluate staff and their performance.
Engage. Be an advocate for our organization by communicating regularly with both guests and staff. Be a supporter of and the backbone to your team, getting them excited about promoting fitness and directly impacting our guests. Answer, relay and respond to both internal and external inquiries.
Analyze + Evolve. Be the fitness expert on our department-wide team. Regularly analyze the attitudes and interests of users/non-users in conjunction with industry trends to prepare for further development of fitness and wellness programs.
Collaborate. Work as one team and put your heads together with the other recreation programmers through brainstorming, idea sharing and teamwork. Focus on bringing gold-standard recreational opportunities to the Carmel/Clay community.
What we are looking for in our Fitness Supervisor
Fitness Expertise. Possesses Personal Trainer and various Group Fitness instructor certifications.
Communication Skills. Gets out of your seat and interacts with others. Speaks clearly on individual or group basis to internal staff and external guests and in public meetings. An advocate for the Department. Ability to present and execute staff training.
Multi-tasking. Manages multiple projects and people at one time under controlled deadlines. Compiles, reviews, classifies, prioritizes, analyzes and presents data and findings.
Reliability. Consistently performs well and is trustworthy. Organizes and directs work of self and others.
Team Mentality. All hands-on deck is your motto. Seeks to help out where you are needed and enjoy working with others.
Passion. Truly loves fitness. Finds purpose in daily responsibilities. Projects the mission and vision of the organization. Knows you are in the right work environment and doing a job that is meaningful.

The Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, recreation, physical education, or a related field.
Two (2) year’s staff supervisory experience.
National certification in Personal Training.
National certification in a variety of Group Fitness formats.
Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
You’re a Rockstar If
You have a Master Trainer Certification through NASM or NCCER.
You have your CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional).
