The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), headquartered in Needham, MA is seeking a Chief Operating and Business Development Officer. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr when he organized a two-day ride across Massachusetts to raise money for cancer research. Under his leadership, the PMC has grown to become the most successful single-event fundraiser in the country. With a dedicated staff, thousands of volunteers, plus a committed community of riders, more than $650 million has been raised for life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). 2018's gift was just delivered by the PMC to DFCI and it topped $56 million.
In order to further enhance PMC's efforts, which includes several programs/events throughout the year, PMC is adding a newly created role to their leadership team. We are seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial leader to drive key programs/growth opportunities and strengthen operations across the organization. Additionally, this COO/BDO will build and nurture relationships, advancing the PMC mission among riders, volunteers, sponsors, the press and at corporate or community events. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who shares PMC's passion for the fight against cancer, combining the need for systems thinking and operational leadership with the opportunity to lead key business development and other external relationship building efforts.
The ideal candidate will possess 7-8 years of hands-on management experience leading an organization or business with full managerial oversight, P&L responsibility and proven success in both strategy and delivery. Candidates from not-for-profit and for-profit environments will be considered. Proven financial acumen, comfort and success as a fundraiser, along with a history of developing strong working relationships with multiple constituencies, including a board, will be essential to this COO/BDO's success. Especially important will be this individual's ability to point to multiple examples of innovative ideas she/he brought to life, while also displaying the ability to pivot in response to needs and take advantage of opportunities.
A full leadership profile detailing the opportunity can be found at www.wittkieffer.com. Please direct all nominations and resumes to Kimberly Smith, Julie Rosen and John Fazekas, the Witt/Kieffer consultants leading this assignment in partnership with the PMC via e-mail, to: PMC-COO@Wittkieffer.com.
