Under minimal supervision, develop, implement and oversee successful operation of Campus Recreation facilities and activities and events to ensure quality services related to public relations, technical support, set-up and design related to event production. Work with Student Centers and Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) Operations staff to ensure the facility is properly maintained by cleaning staff and university trades.
Facilities Management & Operations • Manage daily maintenance, repair, and operations of the Campus Recreation facilities. Schedule preventive site maintenance services (such as installing a backup generator). • Direct operations and maintenance of outdoor recreational spaces (playing fields, etc.). • Plan and execute large-scale sport/recreation event productions with UIC units and external constituencies. • Plan and execute timely event changeovers. Oversee timely equipment change/maintenance. • Oversee external agencies contract fulfillment. Communicate and/secure event information and contract riders. • Serve on CAS Facilities Work Team, and attend regular meetings.
Financial and Budgetary Management • Generate income/revenue offsets with internal and external customers. • Establish, approve and monitor budgets and expenditures, assuring compliance with standard accounting and financial practices and principles. • Formulate pricing lists for space rentals. Negotiate rental space for large-scale events.
Strategic Planning • Plan and make strategic decisions and recommendations on facility related issues, taking into account client safety, emerging trends, and financial considerations. • Review operating and financial statements and facilities event records to determine marketing strategy changes.
Policy and Procedure Development and Regulatory Compliance • Develop and update policies related to the use of recreation facilities and sport/recreation event protocols. • Represent department on committees to develop policies related to UIC recreation facilities and event planning. • Review department protocols and policies to enforce compliance with national, state, federal, governing bodies’ guidelines, policies and regulations. • Inspect sporting/recreation equipment & facilities, and work with the Environmental Health & Safety Office to ensure safety codes compliance.
Client Management and Customer Service • Establish protocols and maintain excellent customer service at facilities operating 17 hours per day. • Interface with clients to assess the level of customer service provided and respond to/resolve shortcomings and inquiries.
Staff Management and Training • Hire, train, develop and manage staff. • Verify performance standards are followed by Facilities Staff. Observe and evaluate the performance of staff and provide formative feedback.
Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree. 2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position*.
Note: Master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1 year) of work experience.
1. Master’s degree in Sport Management, Recreation, Kinesiology or related field preferred.
2. Five years experience in a management role, preferably in a collegiate recreation setting, including at least three years’ experience supervising full-time employees.
