Campus Recreation at A&M-Commerce is seeking five graduate assistants for the following areas:
Fitness & Wellness (1)
Intramural & Club Sports (1)
Operations & Member Services (1)
Outdoor Adventures (1)
The mission of our graduate assistantship program is to foster the development of an upcoming recreational professional by immersing them in a holistic, experiential, hands-on recreation experience.
This is a two-year commitment with a renewable contract pending a successful evaluation at the end of the first academic year. Graduate Assistants are required to maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average each semester and progress towards a graduate degree. Graduate Assistants are required to enroll in a minimum of six credit hours and a maximum of nine credit hours of graduate work for each of the fall and spring semesters.
General Job Requirements
Attend bi-weekly professional and student staff meetings.
Provide oversight of program area in the absence of supervisor.
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Other duties as assigned that assist with the overall mission of the department.

Required Qualifications for all Graduate Assistant Applicants
A Bachelor’s Degree and acceptance into the Graduate School at TAMUC.
Experience working in collegiate recreation, recreational program, or related program for at least one year.
Possess current American Red Cross/First-Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain during the first 30 days of employment.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing a background check.
Compensation and Benefit Package
Tuition coverage (eligible for both in-state/out-of-state students) and health benefits (if taken). Student is responsible for semester fees, which are approximately $1,500.
If a degree program requires summer classes in order to remain compliant for graduation in spring, then a summer tuition waiver may be provided under approval of the Director of Campus Recreation.
$1,200 monthly stipend that is paid biweekly at 20 hours per week.
$2,000 yearly funding for professional development including NIRSA Region IV/Student Lead-On, NIRSA Annual Conference, certifications, tournaments, and other opportunities.
$500 book scholarship per semester.
Additional non-GA related employment available during the summer (paid hourly)
Common Graduate Programs for Campus Recreation GA’s
Preference will be given to those applicants who submit the required documents by Sunday, January 13, 2019. Review of applications will begin on Monday, January 14, 2019. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ON BLUEFISH.
Operations & Member Services Graduate Assistantship (10 month contract)
Assist with overseeing approximately 60 front desk employees including: operations managers, member services, and attendants. This will include hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
Assist with program oversight including budget preparation and management, facility inspections, special event programming, membership sales, program promotion, risk management, and policy development.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Morris Recreation Center (which includes the Great OutRoars and MAC Court) and Cain Sports Complex.
Create and maintain monthly staff schedules using online scheduling software (Sub It Up) to ensure entire facility has coverage and assume responsibility for filling in when necessary.
Coordinate all fitness equipment maintenance including preventative, safety checks, and out of order issues.
Maintain quantities and appearance of informal check-out equipment.
Responsible for overall appearance of facility, which includes working with maintenance.
Manage and oversee all facility reservations using EMS and Innosoft Fusion.
Assist in the overall development of all facility student workers.
Experience in facility operations, membership services, and event management

Marketing (10 month contract)
Assist with overseeing approximately 4 marketing student employees including: graphic designers, photographers, and marketing assistants. This will include hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
Develop, manage, and deliver a variety of marketing initiatives including advertising, promotions, branding, campus outreach, social media, email marketing, video/photography creation, and digital signage.
Develop and critique graphic design projects such as posters, schedules, digital ads, and apparel designs.
Assist with production and editing of marketing videos and photography.
Serve as department marketing liaison to student stakeholders (i.e. - Registered Student Organizations, the student newspaper, Greek Life, etc.).
Assist in administering the department’s social media accounts.
Assist in website reviews and updates.
Promote the department’s vision through the creation and execution of diverse and progressive marketing materials/promotions/tactics.
1+ years’ experience in program or event marketing/advertising.
Experience using Adobe Cloud Suite and with administration of social media platforms.
Experience with branding, brand management, website, photography, and/or graphic design.
Experience working within a campus recreation setting and direct management of student employees.

Assist with overseeing approximately 15-20 fitness student employees including: group fitness instructors, personal trainers, fitness specialists, and program managers. This will include staff and program supervision; hiring, training and evaluation.
Assist with program oversight including budget preparation and management, workshops, special event programming, program promotion, risk management and policy development.
Assist with the daily operations of maintaining a comprehensive group exercise program that programs approximately 25-30 classes per week.
Hire, train, schedule, mentor and evaluate program managers, group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness specialists.
Administer data collection of group fitness participation.
Assist with personal training program.
Assist with ACE courses for group fitness instructors and certified personal trainers.
Assist in programming and student wellness special events such as Women & Weights, Zumba with Zombies, Sunset Yoga, Yoga and Hike, De-Stress Fest, Safe Spring Break, Rec Fest, Resolution Roar, and Take Paws.
Assist in the overall development of all fitness student workers.
Utilize IMLeagues online registration of Fitness and Wellness programs.
Current Fitness Instructor certification through ACE, AFAA, or other nationally recognized agency.
Previous experience instructing multiple group fitness formats.
Current NCCA recognized Personal Training certification (ACE, NSCA, NASM, ACSM).
Current Group Fitness Instructor certification in one or multiple areas (Yoga, Zumba, Spin/Cycle, Pilates, Boot Camp, TRX, etc.)
Advanced certification (CSCS, USAW, CES, FNS).

Intramural & Club Sports Graduate Assistantship (10 month contract)
Complete day-to-day operations of the intramural sports program, including scheduling games, collection of team payments, employee payroll, and data entry.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate intramural employees including supervisors and officials.
Coordinate a comprehensive training program for intramural employees in basketball, flag football, floor hockey, futsal, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
Conduct and evaluate participant satisfaction surveys regarding intramural events.
Provide input and assist with further developing policies, procedures, and risk management for a growing club sports program.
Oversee and assist club sport teams with budgets, travel, and leadership development.
Assist with scheduling club sport practices and events.
Serve as webmaster for IMLeagues online registration as well as SubItUp online scheduling software.

Officiating experience at the intramural, high school, or recreational league level
